Help me snug my snug!

I have attached pictures of our new snug- formerly a small kitchen. Its the oldest room in the house and we thought it would make a lovely cosy snug but it’s missing something (or several things!). We have pictures for the wall, which will be added when we know what we want to put where.
I’m considering adding a plush curtain across the arched doorway to separate it slightly from the rest of the ground floor which is very light and fairly open plan. Do you think that will look ok?
What else do we need? Would you add a rug? What colour/style?
Lamps? We will definitely be adding plants- any suggestions? It’s a north facing room so gets very little natural sunlight.
The scruffy chest in the window is my little reading corner, I hide from my children there. I use the windowsill for my tea/wine 😄Suggestions of how to improve the look but keep the function would also be welcome!
I don’t think we want to move furniture around, it
could probably be better configured but my husband gets very grumpy when I raise the issue so I’m leaving that for now!
Our style is fairly traditional but we don’t want it to look too dated or formal. Cosy, traditional, warm and welcoming is the feeling we’re after. I also really like the boho and natural interior trends too, so we could lean into one of both of those? What would you do?

I've got a north facing snug and I'm embracing the "Gentlemen's Club" look as we'll mainly use it on winter evenings with the log burner lit.
I'm.just waiting on my Roman blinds to be fitted; they are dark green also.

Oh yes, that TV would fit in the alcove to the right of the fireplace but the unit is an inch or so too wide.

Love the wall colour

Thank you! We are embracing the dark and love it. I don't think there is any point trying to make a dark room light- use it to your advantage.

William Morris wallpaper (maybe just on a feature wall) and matching cushions will cosy it up. Avoid adding more brown in the room, it's quite depressing and you already have plenty. Paint the tv unit in a colour to match one of the accent colours that you introduce. If you have a collection of pictures on the wall, paint the frames the same colour to tie them in with your scheme.

The ceiling light is quite stark , never going to look snug. Maybe a simple pendant light with fabric shade . Table lamps with shades in matching or toning colours. A coffee table on a rug in front of the sofa will break up the floor area.

Do you definitely want to keep the TV in there? We don't have a TV in our snug and it's a lovely room to go in to just read, chat or listen to music.

I think a roman blind would look better than the curtains. Agree that the sofa would look better facing the fire but completely understand the need for the tv also. You say the unit the tv is on is an inch too big for the alcove by the fire. Could the top be trimmed to fit in there? Or could you have a cupboard made to measure to fit or some shelves in the alcove for the tv to sit on?
Defo darker shades of paint and some nice lamps. I'd put a really big rug in there so the sofa goes over it but make sure it isn't too close to the fire due to embers.
It's a beautiful room.

I don’t think you can avoid moving furniture to be honest. It just doesn’t look right. Definitely move the sofa so it’s facing the fire, consider a smaller tv and definitely a different tv cabinet and put it in the alcove so it doesn’t dominate the room. Make the fireplace THE feature - log baskets, candles, fire irons etc. In summer fill a huge ceramic vase with dried stems, grasses, flowers etc. Agree you need lamps and rugs. And side tables. Moving the tv unit (which doesn’t fit the snug ideal unfortunately) will also give you opportunities to make the window seat even more welcoming, with side table, brass free standing lamp, cushions, throws etc. A nice basket with spare throw. Find some pictures on insta of the look you want to emulate and break it down so you can identify what it is you like and try and emulate.

Also a dog, cosied up in front of the fire would really finish this room 😎

Rugs, books, cushions and throws, big green plants and some church candles.

Fairy lights are amazing and have them all over the house at all times of the year. They soften everything - go for warm white led. Sheepskin rugs or throws - super soft - plenty of nice environmentally friendly candles and large tall lamp and smaller table lamps agsin with warm white led bulbs. Plenty of lovely books and a nice wrap and some decent mugs and tray and I recently brought a wrap around wood tray for the sofa arms in my house that balance a gin glass or mug perfectly

I agree with everyone else: it needs a rug, preferably a coffee table, a curtain for the small window and nook. Ideally I would get a proper wool blanket or two to go near the sofa. Lean into the darker coloured walls. Lamps.

If you are thinking about decanters - I have seen some lovely ones in TK Maxx of all places (they were beautiful crystal ones and somehow only about a tenner but wine decanters rather than ones with a stopper for whisky etc - I might have to pop in and buy one now I've remembered them again).

Have you discovered dartington's seconds range as well?

Still expensive but I have never noticed anything the matter with them.

Sofa opposite fire.
All walls deep green or similar. Go dark.
TV wall mounted in the alcove where the tall cabinet is (would tv fit?) You wouldn't need it to be on a unit, you could just put built in shelves above and below it, so it is less prominent and so you are always looking at the fireplace.
Where the TV currently is place a v comfy seat or two with a side table next to it, for more seating and a cosy spot nearer fire in winter. Place large pot plant near seat/s.
As large a rug as you can fit in (small rugs in middle of rooms look really weird). You could go colourful rug or just max out on texture. Different texture cushions.
Make art works big or cluster smaller ones together to fill a larger space. Hanging small picture too high on a fairly empty wall does not look at all cosy just sparse (and is my pet hate decor mistake!).

Fantastic thanks, so many good suggestions made. I agree that we need to make the fire the focal point instead of the tv, and the furniture needs to be arranged for conversation rather than tv watching. At the moment it looks like we’re all lined up waiting for a bus!
I’ll play around with the furniture before getting rugs and lamps etc, get the big pieces right first.
