Help on oak beam

Please can anyone help? I’m so confused. Having a 70s fireplace ripped out (finally) and a reclaimed brick fireplace put into our 1850 farmhouse. Part of that involves an oak beam which we will stain/wax/oil ourselves.

What I’m confused about is making sure I use the right stuff that won’t smell as it will have a new woodburner in it.

Have you done this? What do you recommend to use. I went to a shop and saw a massive range of internal wood stuff such as oil, wax, stain and varnish.

I know I don’t want varnish and I know I want a darker oak (not too dark and not too light) but it’s got to be suited for a beam for a fireplace and I just don’t understand what chemicals I should avoid.

Your help (and any photos) would be very appreciated. Thank you so much.

We got one from www.oakbeamuk.com/ and it came ready stained (I know that isn't quite what you're asking but it was super-easy!)

Danish oil is not very smelly and easy to use. Just make sure you follow instructions and don't over do it
