Painting a mirror

I've been looking for a pink framed full length wall mirror without much luck. Any that I've found have been too expensive, so I'm wondering if I can find a white one and paint it.

Found this on Dunelm: www.dunelm.com/product/essentials-full-length-mirror-122x32cm-white-1000119489?defaultSkuId=30568922

Does anyone know if I would be able to paint this? And is there a special type of paint I should use?

Thank you.

I’ve painted a couple of mirrors. I’ve used Little Green paint - used their ASP for the undercoat and then their Toms Oil for another two coats.

TBH, as long as you use an undercoat first, I think you could pretty much paint it however you want.

I've painted several mirrors. I use acrylic paint from the art shop. One coat is enough and stays on. Such a variety of colours too. I mixed colours to get the precise pink I wanted.

Frenchic paint is your friend here. Doesn't need an undercoat or prepping other than cleaning with sugar soap to ensure a clean surface. That said, a light sand would be okay.

With frenchic (or similar, like Annie Sloan paint etc) to do a few thin 'dry' coats. It will look bad before it looks better but it dries quick and you can prob get 2/3/4 coats done in a day if needed.

Lots and lots of videos and photos out there and on Facebook groups for inspiration.

Short answer is yes.

Longer answer is it seems a bit expensive and conversely quite cheap to look at. First review says it is “a bit plastic”. You don’t need a white mirror so you have endless options.

It doesn’t say what it’s made of. Assuming it’s a bit shiny you would be best using a difficult surface primer like the product attached (lots of brands available). Recommend paint type for wood/metal/more durable finish is eggshell.

I have used little greene before - lovely colours but a long time to dry and too high a sheen for me. Farrow and Ball and Graham and Brown eggshell are both very easy to use, very matte and quick drying.

Equally if it won’t be scuffed/knocked you could use pretty much anything. People use samples as a cheap solution and it would be enough for a mirror trim.

Thank you all for your replies. Seems like I could use almost any paint - particularly if I use a primer. I already have a lovely pink acrylic paint so good to know that can be used!

I'll try to go to Dunelm to see what material the frame is rather than ordering online.
