300 cm wide blackout curtains

I'm trying to find extra wide blackout curtains - 3300 cm wide, 125 cm drop. I hope to move out of this rented house soon, so cheap is preferable.

So far my best idea is to buy 2 pairs of curtains and tack two curtains together. Is there anywhere that sells budget wide curtains?

Do you really mean 3,300 cm, so 1,299 inches? That’s 108 feet!
Im assuming it is a typo & you mean 330cm so 129 inches?

I have wide-ish bay windows and bought blackout lining to attach to 2 curtains, each side is 228 cm /90” and that allows for a small gather -so 456cm altogether. Your drop of 125cm /49 inches means you will probably have to get a 52” drop and hem but that at least is a standard drop.

I think it would probably have to be two curtains tbh, if it was just one panel that you swept to one side the bunch up at the end would be really big and might be too heavy for that side of the curtain pole/track.

have a look on Amazon -not a popular suggestion I know, but they do have large cheaper priced curtains. I’d choose some with free returns (as long as you don’t gather/ bunch up the header tape and keep them flat whilst you look at them they can be returned)

You can buy blackout fabric by the metre on eBay and just tack or even fabric glue it to the existing curtains.

Do you even need to sew them together? We had a big bay window with 4 curtains in for years.

Dunelm mill have a sale on currently, so might be worth a look?
Ebay? For curtains someone has previously had made for a wide window.

😂
Sorry, 300 cm!

I always find dunelm great for all of the lengths and all of the widths.

I've got two windows in my house that have been two pairs of curtains up at both. I just sewed the tops where the tape is together so that they pulled along and the rest is just separate.

AlfieSolomons · 13/06/2022 16:08

The curtains already there are blackout, but they're not quite big enough so there's a line of bright sunlight all the way round and at the join every morning at 5 o'clock....
I've just ordered slightly narrower curtains from Dunelm - 284 cm but I think they'll be okay. The drop is longer than the current ones, so that should cut out the light above & below.
Thanks!

I'm clearly too tired from the early morning wakings to see straight....

I typed, then deleted, a “sorry if I’m reading this wrong, I’m really tired” because I wasn’t sure if it was me imagining the numbers 😂

JanglyBeads · 13/06/2022 16:19

Surely if you've been awoken by light coming through at the top you'll be woken by light coming through the 18 cm gap at either side cause by curtains which are too narrow?

RedCarsGoFaster · 13/06/2022 16:23

If you want a temporary solution, have a look at the cheap Ikea blinds. I use these with curtains.

284cm each curtain

It's a bay window, not flat, so blinds wouldn't work, unfortunately.

284cm each curtain

Correct. I just won't bunch them too much. They'll look a bit odd, but at least I might get more than 5 hours sleep each night.

That is the size of my window. I stapled together two sets when I needed a quick fix when I moved in.

Luckystar1 · 13/06/2022 17:37

I’ve just ordered black out kits from easy blinds for our windows. We used them before in our last house. The fabric velcros onto the window frames.

We have very wide windows so are doing pane by pane.

JanglyBeads · 13/06/2022 19:03

Apologies OP.

AlfieSolomons · 14/06/2022 14:27

I'm such an idiot.

Is there anyway to fix the tape at the top if you forgot to tie a knot before pulling, so all the string came out?

Have you tried getting a sleep mask? I am very aware of chinks of light this time of year, and they have really helped me.
