I love my house - built in 1910. Middle house in a terrace of 3. Set back off the road, larger than average rooms. 3 bedrooms, typical layout. I've lived here 6 years and the only thing that upsets me is that all the chimney breasts and fireplaces have been ripped out. I would like to replace the one in the lounge, purely for decorative purposes. I recently had my kitchen refloored (part of it would have been the original dining room) and I noticed that the chimney breast in there would have been a corner one so I am assuming the lounge would also have been on the corner.
My question is: has anyone had a chimney breast rebuilt solely to put a fireplace back for decorative purposes only, so no need for a flue etc. How easy was it? Cost? Does it look authentic? Can any random builder do it? We are in a conservation area but don't think that will be an issue.
Thanks
