Painting kitchen cupboards

Hi,

Anyone painted their kitchen cupboards?

Been looking at the Frenchic paint.

Is it worth the hard work?
Do you need to seal after?

TIA

Yes, definitely worth it! I did a small utility that had high gloss cupboards and they are still perfect 2 years on. The prep wasn't too bad - just took each door off, light sand, wash and then painted with a smooth roller. I did one side, waited an hour and then did the other side... and repeat!

Definitely recommend Frenchic paint, it's amazing, as above just give the cupboards a good sugar soap to clean of dirt, grime etc, a bit of a sand, probably a 180 grit sandpaper or a little finer, then wipe down and paint away! No need to put on a seal but you can use the top coats if you want. X

Thank you both!

I'm going to give it a go and hopefully I do a good job!

I would recommend the wilko cupboard paint. I used this to freshen up my kitchen last year (would love new units but can't afford them!)
The paint was really affordable and looks great.

I'd recommend using a foam roller and really light coats.
I also washed my doors down with sugar soap first and gave them a light sanding.

I used the grey colour - mineral stone in satin finish. There are also chalky finish paints depending on what you want.

Sorry forgot to say it was Frenchic paint that I used - love it 😍

@greenbirdsong I've just had a look at wilko's paint, did you use the primer?
Reviews saying they've had a nightmare with no primer

I used Coat paint and got a painter and decorator to do ours. Love it but do need to retouch after doggy jumping!

What's the difference between Frenchic Lazy range and the al fresco?

Al Fresco cures to a real hard finish after a couple of weeks, lazy has added wax that you buff up a shine but would need a finishing coat on kitchen cupboards to protect them long term.

Are you on Facebook?
If so join the 'Frenchic Fan Forum'.

I did my kitchen and found it easy and loved it.

Another idea is to find a frenchic supplier near you. Just do a quick Google search. They are really useful in working out the type of paint you need!

Just done it myself. I did sugar soap then a very light sand. Then one coat of water based undercoat and then eggshell (2 coats). I didn't use Frenchchic, just normal eggshell with a mini roller.
I found these amazing things called painters pyramids. You can stand the door on them while you paint - total genius!
They look amazing. My advice would be take your time, don't skip the prep and give lots of drying time between coats

@neerg Joined the group!
Omg I want to paint absolutely everything now!

Thank you, al fresco would be the one I would go for

I used Zinsser Allcoat on mine. Self-priming and can be mixed to any colour. It's designed for exterior use on any surface which helps give it more durability to cope with those knocks. So far its perfect!

RosieRoww · 26/05/2022 12:31

Did anyone used Johnstone cupboard paint?
Is it good?
I read a very good reviews about it...🤔

RosieRoww · 26/05/2022 12:32

Can the Frenchic paint be used for MDF cupboards??

Dividos · 26/05/2022 18:25

Yes it can be used on mdf. I think the advice is to seal the mdf with top coat first and then paint.
