Show me your navy hallways

Hi
We are redecorating our hallway and I'm really keen to have one navy feature wall. The area is fairly light with lots of glass in the front door and a full length window right next to it plus a large window at the top of the stairs. I would do all other walls white and then a light grey floor with light grey/silver accessories etc. I'm looking for some inspiration. Please share your navy interiors with me 🙏
Thank you!

I have done this in my not so light hallway (north facing house) and regret it tbh... Even with lots of light I'd consider a lighter shade of blue! Big job to paint over (goes all the way up to 1st floor landing + dado rails) but eventually I will do it!

Riddlediddle · 11/05/2022 19:16

Oh really @ValBiro that's interesting to hear. Does the hallway just feel too dark? That is my concern that it just brings the room in too much

Yes, it looked great when I saw it all over Pinterest and insta but the reality of it is a bit light sapping! Of course it might be different for you if it's a light filled area? We've got a stormy greeny grey blue that is quite dark in our bedroom which is also north facing and that doesn't seem to steal the light quite as much. I think it's something about the intensity of the navy that does it! Hallways aren't supposed to be cosy really, bedrooms are? I don't know, but it's the only paint choice I regret in the house!

When I bought my house it had this dark red colour in the hallway. I don't have additional window like you do but even still it really sapped the light. Also looked dark no matter what. I ended up going for jasmine white (i.e. just off white) to brighten it all up

If you want blue I'd go with something like F&B Oval Room Blue. It's dark enough to give your hallway depth but not too dark to sap the light.

ValBiro · 11/05/2022 22:20

Oval room blue is very similar to the valspar colour I have in our north facing bedroom and it never looks as dark or cold as the navy blue in the hallway does! Lesson learnt for me!

Is it ok if I share my porch which has some navy?

Octopuscrazy · 11/05/2022 22:31

This is our porch

I have 1 living room wall dark navy and the rest duck egg blue, I love it but I think it would be too dark in my hallway to be honest. I used sapphire salute from dulux, it covered beautifully but was so bloody thick it was a pain to paint with 😅

I’m curious on this too. I was considering painting my small windowless downstairs loo navy, was considering farrow and ball Hague blue or inchyra blue, which is softer, but am hesitating a little…

whenwillthemadnessend · 11/05/2022 22:32

Oval room is not a navy tho. It's a teal

I'm just about to do mine navy but not stated the job yet.

ValBiro · 12/05/2022 00:13

Correct, oval room is not navy, but it's a slightly more forgiving dark blue I reckon... @MiseryWIthAStent It looks lovely! Reckon you've got enough light in there to pull that off. Really nice shade.

Riddlediddle · 12/05/2022 12:20

@MiseryWIthAStent that looks lovely! That's just the shade of blue I was thinking of for my hall. Having doubts about going so dark now though with everyone's feedback 🤔

Exactly. It's blue but the right amount of dark for a hallway.

Riddlediddle · 12/05/2022 20:51

Went to homebase after work today to look at paint samples and saw a nice shade called peacock blue which is actually homebases's own brand. A nice mix of blue and grey but lighter than the navy so shouldnt make the area too dark but still a statement wall. Bought the tester pot so will try it out tomorrow.

Here is the brochure photo. Let me know your thoughts as an alternative to navy....

I have just painted my downstairs loo with Wickes Urban Nights.
i did intend for it to be more black / charcoal but it’s come out a very deep denim blue which I actually really love.
ive kept the ceiling white but painted the woodwork to match the walls.

altiara · 14/05/2022 14:35

Really like the new colour, also love Sapphire salute, had 2 walls painted this colour in my son’s room.

ValBiro · 14/05/2022 14:57

@Riddlediddle that's lovely, very similar to the colour I have used in the upstairs hallways which I am planning on using to paint over the navy downstairs! It's still lovely and deep enough to be impactful.
