Flooring and general advice

Hi all
I am looking to get my flat redecorated, including the flooring, and new plaster on the main wall in the kitchen/lounge.

I've only done painting etc myself before.

Should flooring be done last, so there's no worries about damaging it? I think it's like a faux effect wood flooring at the mo, not sure what it's made of or how hard it is to take up.

Is there maybe a cheaper way to improve the look of it?

I will get a decorator in to quote but I would like to figure out exactly what the job is first. Also, I might replace the washing machine. It's on it's last legs and as it's integrated, it makes more sense to do that first I think?

All advice gratefully received.

Plaster first
Then floor - don't know about preparation there ( bumping for you )
Then decorate ?

I would plaster the wall, then paint the walls so you don't have to worry about any spilling on new floor. Then do flooring knowing you might need to do touch up on skirting board. When I redecorated my lounge to have new carpet down. I pulled up the old one myself and repainted the room and skirting boards before the new carpet went down and it was much better that way.

Plaster

Then flooring.

Then painting

No damage to any surface if you do it that way. Cover the floor with plastic sheeting but any paint should come off easily if its not carpet.

Thinking faux wood like laminate? Tiles? Or vinyl?

Thanks everyone

does anyone know how disruptive it is to get the flooring done? My guess is..very? It would be laminate.

It can be moderately disruptive.

We just had a new floor (engineered wood) installed in our main living room and an adjacent playroom. All the furniture had to go out - because we didn't want to live with it all in the kitchen it ended up having to go into storage for the duration. We also had to have the radiators removed then put back on after the painting was done, otherwise the skirting wouldn't have gone on in a clean piece along those walls as the rads were quite low.

Doing the floor and putting new skirting boards on involved a fair amount of dust and it took the best part of a week.

After that the decorator came and did all the walls, ceiling, and skirting board - another 2 weeks.

So all in all it was a bit of a pain, but I have to say worthwhile as the rooms looks much better now.
