Which bed for this room?

Ds age 10 needs a new bed. His old one is getting quite wobbly. I've attached a diagram of his room and a couple of photos. It was a big room but a chunk has been taken out for the stairs so now it's a funny L shape. Building work to move the stairs not an option.

He's got a mid-sleeper bed right now but it needs replacing. I think it dominates the room rather than be a good use of space. When he was 5 he played in the space underneath. Now he's 10 he's too big to play there so it's just a dumping ground.

I'm wondering about a cabin bed, so more storage underneath than a divan with drawers but not as high as the mid sleeper he's got right now. Are cabin beds actually any good for storage? Or just a bit of a waste?

He's not keen on a high sleeper although that would free up floor space for a desk, he's going to need that sooner or later.

The wall the bed is currently on is something like 197cm long so annoyingly just too short for a standard bed. We had to get a shorter than normal bed. But we could put a standard length bed along the wall under the window. The mid sleeper was too high for that.

Any suggestions? Whatever we buy now has to last him till he moves out so I'm over-thinking.

We also need some suggestions for what to do with the cupboard under the stairs. It's a big box roughly 80cm wide and deep, so goes quite far back, and around 1.1m high, although the doors are smaller than that. It doesn't have any shelves or anything in it right now because I can't think how to shelve it in a way that makes it easy to still reach the things at the back.

He's not the sort of kid who puts things neatly on shelves anyway, the massive cup to just chuck things in suits him fine but seems quite a waste when we've not got too much floor space.

Thank you all, I'm not very good at visualising how things will work.

Given his age I would suggest a full sized bed. My eldest is fourteen and hit 5'7' when twelve. He has a small room but we decided to prioritize comfort so 4ft bed that lifts up with tons of storage.we also got a wardrobe built in with sliding doors to save space. One side is traditional wardrobe the other opens to desk and storage area for school bits.

Studybed? It is a bed and desk in one. Folds up against the wall. Not cheap but you can take it if/when you move. Cheaper versions exist. Google "Murphy bed with desk."

how about a regular single bed under the window and a small desk next to it in the corner nearest the cupboard. Then at the end of the bed (straight ahead when you walk in) you could have this type of clothes-bar storage for shirts. Plus some big plastic boxes in the cupboard for big things (football boots etc).

I'd get a bed that has no frame or headboard & is as neat as possible but also pretty low towards the floor because that makes a small room look bigger. and it can be used as a place to sit too.

I wouldn't do a high-sleeper bed in a small room if there is any other solution - it makes the room feel even smaller and a tall child will constantly feel like they are banging their head and can't even stretch their arms. Low simple furniture can make the room seem bigger.
