Beautiful cottage curtains

I’m thinking I may have to admit defeat. I’ve always hoped that when the day came and I finally had a house to decorate I would be able to buy curtains such as these.
Lovely fabric made to measure.
Sadly they are way too pricey. £75 per metre at peony and sage ! I have two huge windows to buy for. I’ve looked at the Laura Ashley ones on the next website but the patterns just aren’t doing it for me.
Any suggestions?

Look for cheaper fabric - it does exist!

I like Terry's Fabrics, they have a huge range and send free samples.
You can buy the fabric, and either learn how to make curtains yourself (not too hard so ling as you can sew a straight line on a sewing machine), or get them made up by someone.

Terry's also do a made-to-measure curtain service, though I don't think it includes all their fabrics.

I've filtered the links by 'floral' for that cottagey theme, and they have 1000+ fabrics in that category, and 100+ in the made-to-measure service.

Also you can buy very good heavy linings in ikea, very long but quite narrow. Easy to join together.

Keep an eye on eBay as well!

Chintz is definitely coming back in.

Look for factory shops several in the north and either make them yourself or get them to make them.

Buy second hand curtains. Look for discontinued patterns including Laura Ashley...the older patterns might appeal more. Charity shops including online.

Textile Express is another good source of fabric, either online (they're also on eBay) or at their bricks and mortar shop in Oswestry, Shropshire. They also send out free samples and offer 10% off your first order.

I'd second buying fabric and making them yourself if possible... very rewarding to get beautiful curtains for a fraction of the cost to have them made 😄

I've found some amazing designer fabrics and made my own as well as getting great bargains on gently used designer curtains on eBay.

I’m looking at cottage / English country house style fabrics too. Have you looked at Clark and Clark? Part of Sanderson but a less expensive range? Lots of florals and chintz (hugely back in again by the looks of things!).

I used this tutorial to make my own - step-by-step guide, and really clear. www.sew-helpful.com/curtain-lined-pencil-pleat-index.php

Agree on Terrys - really good range/prices. They often have sales/offers so sign up to their email

I have furnished all my windows in my old cottage with charity shop bought fabric/curtains and then get them dry cleaned and then altered to fit.

I've found some beautiful fabrics, lots of Laura Ashley, John Lewis, Musbury, Voyage cervino. Facebook market place is worth a look too.

Have a look on e bay. I managed to buy a couple of pairs of brand new Laura Ashley curtains that were still in their packaging.
