Is there any way of saving my carpet

I splattered nail varnish on it a few days ago. Google said use hairspray, but I didn't have any and was pretty preoccupied with something else. I tried nail polish remover, which ran out anyway, and you can see how well that worked.

Is there anything else can do now that it's dried in?

The carpet's only been down about 6 weeks.

I’d get a specialist to look at it - is there anyone independent in your area who does carpet repairs and specialist cleans? They might need to cut it out and join a new piece.

It's fucked.

This is the only stain remover I swear by. It's got up lots of accidental carpet spills in our house. Maybe give it a try!

Claim on your house insurance?

I'd ask a specialist carpet cleaner's opinion and if they can't sort it for you, claim on your home insurance assuming you have accidental damage cover.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to try a a carpet specialist tomorrow.

The carpet was £400 and I'm sure my excess is something like £300. Although I might be getting confused with my car insurance! But I'm not sure it's worth bumping my premiums anyway.

So the nail polish remover ran out - do you mean you didn’t have much left? If so the obvious thing is to buy two bottles and have at it again.

GoBackToPartyCity · 27/03/2022 23:20

Hairspray, but it’s going to take some work to get it off. Shaving foam is supposed to be good too!

notsomagiccarpet · 27/03/2022 23:20

I had about a third of a bottle, but it didn't seem to be making much difference anyway

My mum did this and it was an insurance job unfortunately

heldinadream · 29/03/2022 10:09

I'd just cover it with a nice rug and forget it's there. I honestly don't think you're going to get it out and insurance is going to be a hassle and then they'll probably bump up your premium and you'll have gained nothing.
Nail varnish is one of the worst things because it's designed to dry hard and strong!

notsomagiccarpet · 29/03/2022 10:20

@heldinadream it's not in a good place for a rug. Right under my bedside table.

I'm wondering if I can rip it up and put it in DS room under his drawers or something.

He needs a new carpet anyway, and then I'd just have to get another.

If you’ve got any of the carpet left good carpet fitters can take a piece out and stick a new piece in and you’d never know.

gluenotsoup · 29/03/2022 10:31

I’d try more nail polish remover and just keep blotting til it’s gone, don’t rub. I got red nail polish completely out of a wool carpet this way. It takes some time but you’ve nothing to lose.

do a search on how to remove dried nail varnish from carpet
