Hi,

Just on the look out for some new Reed diffusers. Any recommendations? Preferably ones that smell nice/strong and don't cost a fortune!

White company are the best I’ve found. The smell actually lasts, we have a Grapefruit one in the bathroom that I got on sale after Christmas and it still smells as strongly as it did when we first opened it. I’m happy to spend the money as they seem to be the only ones that actually smell after a week. Sainsburys were by far the worst in that respect. For real luxury, Diptyque also have tremendous staying power but they’re silly money really.

ttcbabyk · 10/03/2022 18:15

Thank you.
I had one from The White Company and I couldn't smell it. Maybe it was the scent I picked up, who knows? May give it another chance.

I did like the Molton Brown one I purchase a few years ago, but it wasn't worth the price!

I like the sainsbury/habitat range. It’s worth a punt given their prices. My current favourite is the amber and patchouli one.

@YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie - I have the remains of a white company verbena candle from circa 2007 that still smells lovely! Good to hear the quality is still decent as I’m in the market for a diffuser too...

I buy them from Aldi. About £2.99 each, reliably lasts six weeks.

I use these from m&s. Not only do they smell really fresh but they last for ages. I left one in my office at the start of the first lockdown and I could still smell it when I went back months later.

These are my absolute favourite and last for ages!

The only one that lasts longer than 2 months is Milton brown orange and bergamot. Literally lasts a year. Costs about 40 pounds I think but worth it!

Willow & White Candle Co - their candles and reed diffusers have a reliably long scent. Lovely choice of scents too - my current favourite is pomelo. Always buying them for gifts, rate very highly.

Peppermint Grove are the best I've found. They last over a year and still smell like the first day they were opened.

safefromharm · 12/03/2022 06:53

It must be the scent you choose, I think some smells are just more "sharing" - there's a techie term for this but I can't remember it - someone bought me a Price's Vanilla candle and there was no need to burn it - really strong long-lasting smell.
A White company spa candle - couldn't even smell it when it burned.

I’ve started buying from Clyde Candles via Amazon; their sweet ginger and lime is lovely, and it lasts! We have a draughty house, so I often can’t smell diffusers after the first couple of days, but this is great without being overpowering. About £14-16 usually.
I also had a Glade airwick one at Christmas; lasted at least a month and was under a fiver.

ParadiseLaundry · 12/03/2022 07:11

Does anyone else think other factors might affect how well you can smell them? In the summer I find that I can smell all of them better as the scent carries better when it's warmer?

Also in rooms where they are next to the radiator. I've had some from the pound shop and Primark that have been really good and some expensive ones from TK Maxx that are rubbish. Also when the bottle is wide at the bottom and the sticks splay out more you tend to get a better throw, I find.

I sometimes use wooden kebab skewers with the ends cut off if the sticks provided aren't long enough Grin it seems to made a difference!

Hodehodeho · 12/03/2022 07:17

@safefromharm the word you’re looking for is sillage - how much ‘throw’ a fragrance has

LulusMiniEgg · 12/03/2022 07:28

I really like the Chrchgate diffusers at Dunelm. Really sophisticated almost manly scents unlike most cheaper diffusers which are really sweet and cloying I find. £12 and come in a nice brown box!

Thank you!😁

LargeProsecco · 12/03/2022 15:05

Oliver Bonas - definitely the best I have used & last for ages

Savvysix1984 · 12/03/2022 15:08

I love the Neals Yard diffusers. The blue one (calm I think it's called) is lovely.

Tempnamelady · 12/03/2022 15:15

Look for Vila Hermanos at TK Maxx, simply, stylish last for ages and smell divine! I have Mimosa and Thiare in my lounge currently.

EmmaStone · 14/03/2022 20:26

True Grace are fantastic and very long lasting. Worth the money IMO.

Tulipdays · 14/03/2022 20:31

Another vote for Habitat / Sainsburys range, the pineapple one is lovely. I refuse to spend more than a £5-10 on a air freshener. Maybe I'm just tight.

magicstar1 · 14/03/2022 20:33

Rituals are lovely and last for months.

Subbaxeo · 14/03/2022 20:34

Library by True Grace was the best reed diffuser I ever had. Smelt sophisticated, moreish and comforting. I now use an electronic diffuser with few drops of lavendar and peppermint#or White Company oils. Oils are as cheap as chips as you only use a few drops and you can pick up a diffuser for 20 quid.

Useranon1 · 14/03/2022 20:43

White company or true grace definitley

itbemay1 · 14/03/2022 21:30

Valentte ones last ages and they do matching candles.
