Hanging plates outside

I've just redone my garden with a Moroccan feel. The seating area is at the back under a pergola on Moroccan tiles. I have a collection of Spanish plates that I'd like to hang on the fence (which is painted black). The tiled area is up to the fence so only container plants could go there but I am planning on having some climbers to cover the pergola, but the fence is exposed.
Some of The plates do have hanging holes, but have heard that wiring a plate will damage it. I also have those stick on decals but not sure they'd adhere to the rougher texture of a fence and hold in wet weather. The plates aren't particularly valuable but they are old and I've had them for decades - I don't want them breaking. Any advice as to how to fix them to the fence, or is this a terrible idea? It's a sheltered city garden but still open to the weather.

Perhaps should have posted this in garden!

Could you put up a shelf (or a couple if shelves) and secure them on that. If painted the same colour as the fence and quite narrow (just wide enough to hold the plates) it would be quite unobtrusive. Or a bit wider and you could add small pots with hanging plants and some Moroccan style lanterns.

Plates will suffer outside Op. if you have Majolica plates then the clay is especially prone to frost damage.
The changes in moisture and temperature will damage plates , they will crack and could flake. I wouldn’t do it if they are something you love.
