What colour for loft bedroom?

My loft bedroom is quite big and very bright, loads of light. It has not been repainted since my DC shared it and it's time for a new look (bye bye pink).

Would you go all white or add some colour? It's so long since I've decorated a room, I've just got no ideas at all, which it why white seems appealing! Skirting boards are natural wood and there is an inbuilt wooden wardrobe which also needs a spruce up.

What way does it face? My loft room is south-facing and painted in F&B Oval Room Blue, it's a gorgeous colour.

A large light room can take a bit of colour on the walls, but the aspect will make a big difference.

Good question...south west I think?

Your blue sounds nice, I'm going to look that up. Is it blue all over?

It is indeed blue all over, though we did paint the ceiling white which I regret now. Would do in an off-white or paler shade of blue if I were repainting.

Green would be lovely too, or whatever floats your boat. You can get away with a lot in a room like that!

Will it remain as a bedroom? Is it just a guest room now or someone else is moving in? What about a feature wall in another colour? I would never go stark white again. The 'in thing' a few years ago was Magnolia, apparently now its a different 'off white' which isn't as stark as bright white (can't recall the name though).

I'd choose a slightly warmer colour than stark white which will complement the wood doors/skirting etc with a complementary contrasting feature wall. I read that if you have a feature wall, it shouldn't be one with a door or window though. Any colours you like? Hate?

It's my room, I didn't explain very well! I've been living with the pink for a while and am finally gearing myself up to make the change.

Feature wall could work, although being the loft there are odd shapes of walls and ceilings.

I love yellow but it might be a bit much in a bedroom. I also really like green.

Looking at the Farrow and Ball colours, there was a nice stone colour that could work maybe? But then that would need to be all over, maybe including the ceiling? I'm really bad at imagining what it would look like 😂

Not stone sorry, Sand.

Any more loft bedroom owners with good ideas?

Our large loft is also very light and airy. We went with white walls and white cupboards but have dark wood (laminate) floors, blue bedding and a bright rug (it's a mixed colour rag rug with blue, red, green, yellow etc). I love my bedroom - the white is soothing and relaxing but the colour means it doesn't feel sterile.

Sounds lovely @BlingLoving

Yes I was thinking if I went all white I would need a green duvet cover and rugs. Very Scandi!

Not very helpful as you say you don’t want pink, but I have F&B Peignoir in my loft bedroom and I love it. I’ve got mustardy curtains & bed linen and an Orla Kiely orange & grey blackout blind. Probably sounds horrible but the colours all work together with a mix of white & pale wood furniture. The peignoir is a really lovely greyish pink and more of a neutral than a pink, iyswim.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 23/02/2022 17:37

Actually that sounds really lovely @WindUpBird!

It's a skill to put colours together to create a relaxing space that's special to you. It's a skill I'm missing 😂

Dulux overtly olive is a beautiful green.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 23/02/2022 17:39

Our loft room is whispering sage

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 23/02/2022 17:39

And now that I've checked peignoir, it's a very different pink to the one I'm currently living with. Really lovely.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor and @TakeMeToYourLiar those are both lovely. Do you have it on every wall?

What about the ceiling?

Ours is very light thanks to the dual aspect and we've kept the walls white. The sunlight and good internal lighting means it's not 'cold' (though I'm not British and have never quite got the aversion to white walls here, I've never found them particularly cold/clinical but these are cultural differences I guess.)

It also makes the slightly lower ceilings/sloping ceiling into the front wall feel bigger as there isn't a colour change between wall and ceilings - after a few loft rooms where I was really aware of the division between wall and ceiling, I prefer this.

Lots of pictures up on the walls, ability to change bedding and other features. I love it because it's light and airy - a balm to my soul.

Yes I do, though one wall is built in wardrobe so that's oak

Curiousmouse · 25/02/2022 12:10

All white for a loft bedroom, every time. Peaceful sky retreat.
