Which sort of curtains would suit my living room?

Finally managed to get a sofa after 16 weeks of waiting! We are now looking at getting some curtains but unsure of which ones. I was thinking about getting a voile as well as curtains not sure how it that’s too much?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I’d use Roman blinds. Keep the modern clean feel.

Nice sofa. Assume you want to keep your decoration neutral? Is the double glazing in the patio doors good enough that you are happy to have light curtains that don't provide much insulation? I'd have voiles in the summer and heavier curtains in the winter. I wouldn't have roman blinds over a patio door, they will be very bulky and will cover part of the door.

As it's a neutral room you could carry off most colours. If you want it all neutral then I would match curtains to the colour of your sofa or one of the greys out of the rug, possibly even white like your lampshade. If you want colour then a dark red would look nice as a contrast like your flowers, or you could have a mustard yellow or navy blue. Blush pink for something lighter.

Thanks all for the suggestions! I’m not sure about the insulation of the doors but maybe that is something to consider! I’m not a fan of Roman blinds but thanks for the suggestion.

@Blossomandbee love the idea of yellow/mustard curtains. Thanks

Something with gold and green tones to tie in with your Buddha and artwork?

dontcallmelen · 16/02/2022 14:56

Agree as it’s such a neutral room most colours would work, maybe green & pink (either a blush or a brighter fuchsia pink)

My daughter has a similar settee and neutral tones. She has put duck egg and a very muted mustard as accent colours.

As the window is large, a blind could be problematic. It’s very wide. I would consider a neutral sculptural fabric and maybe edge with a brighter colour. There are lots of neutral fabrics with embroidered patterns in them that would work. Clarke and Clarke have well priced fabrics. I would just not have grey!

Wave curtains give a modern look and aren't too bulky.

Not red or grey.

Palm Jungle by cole and sons.
Monkey Business by Clark and Clark

Have a look on Jane Clayton website, they stock loads of fabrics. It's a bit of a process of elimination, rule out what you don't like. Work out if you want the curtains to be a statement and a feature of the room, or just a back drop. As the sofa and rug are neutral I think you can afford to have some fun with the curtains.

Will you get them made or buy of the shelf?

Marika, Lusso and Manhattan collections are good places to start by Clarke and Clarke. You might like the Momentum collections by Harlequin.

I'd say some deep moss green patterned curtains to go with the Frida Kahlo painting. They need to be thick and lined as that large window will lose a lot of heat.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 16/02/2022 16:43

I think curtains would spoil the very stylish design of your room. If you need something I'd say blinds. You can get automatic ones that roll up and down. I like that room without window dressings.

Ime I pick a picture that I love (I see you have one!) and choose a colour from it for accessories..
So I would get green long curtains and cream voiles.

TizerorFizz · 16/02/2022 17:23

Why green and grey? A bit odd in my view. Use accent colours but the room is largely neutral. A big block of colour won’t do it any favours. It’s a modern room so modern patterns or sculptural fabrics would be best. You can pay the curtains at each side so they only cover the glass by 100mm each side.

Roman blinds are quite difficult and I’m not sure other blinds give the room character. It is quite plain. There are so many wonderful fabrics, it could be fun searching.
