If you've got a shower along side a window..

.. what kind of blind do you have ?

I've avoided it for ages as the idea of a mouldy blind grosses me out but suspect my body silhouette through frosted glass bothers the neighbours more 😂

I was thinking about a non recess fit so the window sill doesn't get flooded any more.

What do you have ?

I'm interested in this too as going to reconfigure my bathroom soon and think the shower may go along the window side

SimpleHoardOfTruth · 14/02/2022 09:25

We have a waterproof roller blind from blinds2go. Had it for about 6 years and it's not mouldy, colours are still bright and the mechanism still perfect. We got it fitted in the recess but got the tiles on the sill set at a slight angle so water runs off.

There is about 50cm of side wall before the window frame so the shower isn't directly spraying onto it, iyswim. It's not a perfect solution (the sill still gets a bit wet, but not puddled) but we're happy with it.

SickAndTiredAgain · 14/02/2022 09:43

We have a shower curtain up along that wall to cover the window - it isn’t a perfect solution though.
Our window doesn’t have a recess and is right by the shower so any blind would need to be totally waterproof as it would be directly sprayed on.

steppemum · 14/02/2022 09:45

we don't.

I gave up on a blind, the window has frosted glass and is fairly high.

all blinds go manky

Nifflerbowtruckle · 14/02/2022 10:02

Watching with interest as I received an anonymous note last night informing me that someone and probably lots of others can see myself and my boyfriend in the shower together 🙈 they even included a couple of specific details to show that they can see everything 🤦‍♀️ which also means that for the past year they have been able to see me shower.

SwissCheeseRentedChildren · 14/02/2022 10:07

Well I read that as, “if you’ve got to shower alongside a widow.” Ok then.

DSGR · 14/02/2022 10:14

A proper bathroom blind from John Lewis. It’s mould resistant and has never shown mould. I do keep the window open a little 24/7 though

ponkydonkey · 14/02/2022 10:16

I bought a cheap blind and bleach it every now and then...

It's a sliding sash window so I put the blind so it completely covered the whole thing

I also have to paint the frame every year to make sure it doesn't rot

Never again!

grey12 · 14/02/2022 10:18

How close to the window are we talking? Like your body is 10 cm away from the window? Or just in the vicinity?

Because if you're not too close you can get a pattern that won't show much 🤷🏻‍♀️

NotMeNoNo · 14/02/2022 10:20

Waterproof blind with a good overlap on both sides.
Good extractor fan
Leave the window slightly open/open trickle vent so it can dry out on both sides.

grey12 · 14/02/2022 10:20

I like this pattern Smile

Those leaves are touching the window! The patio is on the other side and you can just about see a blur of colour if someone is inside.

The other option is a privacy mirrored window

If you've got a shower along side a window..

I wonder if lighting is a big factor in what can be seen from outside?
I tend to shower in the morning and the window means I don’t need the light on. I assume that with this level of lighting there is no silhouette.

Is a pendant light casting light all around? Would downlighting from the ceiling be better?

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 14/02/2022 10:38

We have it so the foot of the bath is by the window and the shower is at the other end and have this blind www.argos.co.uk/product/8211853?clickSR=slp:term:thermal%20blind:1:388:2
It hasn’t got mouldy yet and we’ve had it for about 2 years. But we do use the extractor fan and the blind doesn’t get directly showered on.

Hannahthepink · 14/02/2022 11:21

We have a shower in front of a window, as do our back neighbours. Honestly, yes, I can see them in the shower, can tell if it's the man or the woman and on one occasion, both Blush
I couldn't face a wet and mouldy blind, but I've put a large artificial plant from IKEA on my windowsill to provide a little tropical style screening!

Crucible · 14/02/2022 11:26

Highest possible level of frosting on glass and sloped tiles. You can't see anything from the outside, I've tested it plenty. Lots of light in, no mouldy blind.

KimchiWithMe · 14/02/2022 11:45

A water proof roller blind from similar online blind company mentioned up thread.

Although I can keep it rolled up as nobody can actually see in anyway.

Very easy to wipe down.

FinallyFree2022 · 14/02/2022 12:07

Thanks!
I shower at night usually so the light is bright and it's, I assume, fairly easy to see a body through the glass.

There is about 50cm of wall so there is some shielding but when it comes to getting out I have move into 'view' as there is fixed shower screen

I've only got frosted glass at privacy level 2 (according to some brochures online) so this could be changed though suspect much more pricy than a blind.

Like the idea of a plant though it would get dusty wet. Perhaps a real one would work.

Frosted glass, no blinds. One day, I want dh to stand in shower whilst I'm at outdoor spot to find out/see what can be seen

NotMeNoNo · 14/02/2022 15:54

You could try some privacy film to white-out the window

I have waterproof shutters. Even when closed they let in a bit of light.
