Bedding that will last

mayflower21 · 07/02/2022 09:45

All my bedding looks quite tired after a couple of years of use. To be fair they're from supermarkets, IKEA or primark.
My mum at home has bedding that looks bright and new after years! (Can't ask her because she lives far don't have same stores here).
Any recommendations for not too expensive but good quality beautiful sets?
Thank you

Buy pure cotton, bedding should last, go more expensive

mrsbyers · 07/02/2022 10:29

Dorma , I get mine from dunelm - beautiful quality that stays colourful even on hot washes

Crumbs22 · 07/02/2022 10:37

Good old M&S pure cotton sets. I tend to buy during the sales and because I have a couple of sets per bed, they tend to keep looking newer longer.

100% cotton from Dunelm

purplesequins · 07/02/2022 10:39

what fabric are yours?
polycottontends to bobble

how do you wash it?
do you iron it?

ponkydonkey · 07/02/2022 10:41

I've got white company bed linen and some of it is over 10 years old!
Always washes beautifully white...

I buy them in the sale, they last and look lovely

Or get the highest thread count and percale cotton from any other place. We do have some marks and spencer ones they are great quality too

Dunelm Dorma as others have said. All my bedsheets are these and make for a very comfy sleep and excellent quality.

I second Dorma bedding from Dunelm

Thanks all for the tips! I'll check out dorma from dunelm for sure, and M&S.
Another idea about ironing was mentioned here - I don't iron mine maybe that's why they don't look so attractive. They're 100% cotton though, but I'll pay attention to thread density next time as was advised 🙏

This might sound silly, but I get ours from home bargain and I only go for 300 thread count. Bought our first set in lock down as no where else was open and was very surprised with the quality. Super comfortable and are much cheaper than the same thread count elsewhere ☺️

My best-lasting bed linen is 30 years old and still looks new. It’s from John Lewis. I don’t think you can get the same quality now. It’s thick cotton, not the thinner stuff you get nowadays that wears and rips eventually.

That's amazing! They probably don't :(

My last lot was dunelm own brand I think but 1000 thread count. It is 14 yes old and just replaced due to holes and thin bits....
I've replaced from bedeck.... can't comment on longevity yet but it feels nice I've gone 500 thread count this time as 1000 either their or dunelm was just too expensive!

JulesJules · 20/02/2022 22:19

My favourite bedding is linen. Doesn't need ironing as it's naturally crumpled, it's so soft, more comfortable and longer lasting than cotton. From Soak and Sleep or Secret Linen Store.

BigSkies22 · 27/02/2022 21:11

Another vote for linen. I've bought from John Lewis, Zara Home and Heals. But I've also bought cotton from IKEA and after 15 years it still looks good. So perhaps it is the case that fings ain't wot they used to be.

La Redoute also gets good reviews (from House & Garden, no less!) - I usually top up about once a year in the sales.
