Bathroom tile paint

Has anyone used paint specifically for the tiles in the bathroom and it's been ok? The tiles are perfectly fine and don't need replaced, but they're black and was hoping to paint them white to brighten it up a bit

Any recommendations?

I have bought some from little green to attempt downstairs loo under stairs. It has good reviews. I probably wouldn’t use near actual water like a shower though

Don't do it!
Seriously - it looks bloody awful.
You might be better to use some graphic treatment instead.

For example stickers like these:

Or tile transfers in a more classic style like these moroccan ones:

But seriously - DO NOT USE PAINT!!!!

I did this once and it looked dreadful! Don’t do it! 😁

We did this once in our old house. We were pleased for about the first 3 months and I hated them with a vengeance after that! I agree with the above posters - don't do it!

I painted the tiles all around the bath with Johnstones tile paint and they are fine. I didn't get a great finish but i am not great at painting tbf, if you are a dab hand with a paint brush they look great. I was covering up a yellowish cream with white and it took at least 3 coats, black would be very hard to cover i would think. I was trying to do it on the cheap but i would go for the best brand you can afford. You need to sand the tiles lightly first and make sure each coat is not streaky or bumpy as it shows up no matter how many coats you do. Despite the fact that mine isn't perfect its nice and fresh and i am pleased with it.

We painted ours and we were pleased with the result but the tiles were awful anyway !

Deadringer · 27/01/2022 10:47

Actually if your tiles are still good i am not sure i would go for it, mine were awful so i had nothing to lose.

Sixmonthson · 27/01/2022 10:48

We did ours - dark green tiles covered with white tile paint. I’m really happy with the result. It did take about 4 coats but the paint was easy to use and it didn’t take long. It’s totally transformed the bathroom for very little cost.

Is it really always awful? Even in tiny spaces? Our loo is under stairs so only two sloping walls really.
They are currently a horrible brown with patterns, i have bought dark blue. And will wallpaper the ceiling slope. Then hang mirror to cover majority

Ok so pretty much a unanimous no Grin Thanks everyone. Will probably have to just save up and change the tiles properly, as I really don't like the colour. It's a tiny bathroom, and I think the all black (we have black/grey marble tiles on the floor) just makes it look even smaller

We have two big wall mirrors on each side of the bathroom as well. One on the wall over the sink, and a mirror wall next to the bath/shower. I personally want to get rid of the one next to the shower, as it's a bugger to clean. Was there when I moved in, probably a good excuse to get rid of it now
