I have artist friends who sell on
www.artfinder.com/#/
and I've bought from there before too

Maxifly · 17/01/2022 17:40

Some art colleges have students work in galleries for sale. I bought a lovely large oil painting for 250 a few years ago. A one off piece not a print obvs.

I've bought prints from this place: admittedly in person and not on line but they have a very varied collection

Do you have an artists open house in your area? They have them in South London, Brighton and places.

CrappyXmasMarket · 19/01/2022 21:21

I've bought a couple of bits off Artwork500 - pleased with both.

Mainly I just follow artists I like on social media and so on and occasionally stuff comes up for sale.

QuizzicalEyebrows · 19/01/2022 21:24

King & McGraw do loads of different prints. You can also select frame colour, mount and some prints have different sizes available. I've bought 5 prints from them and all are great quality

Please buy from artists as many have been struggling lately due to galleries being closed and print shows cancelled.
Print shows at the Hepworth, Wakefield and Ulverston Print Show will hopefully be on later this year I picked up some work from artists at these shows. Paper Plane, Gloucester Rd, Bristol and a gallery in Bath ( forgotten the name of it R? Lots of these have links online or online shops. Etsy. If you see something you like lots of the artists have their own website. Any Universities or Art colleges near you as they usually have end of year( June) shows. I have been to several of these. Some amazing work by up and coming artists and they often have work to sell. Also art trails Spring Fling in southern Scotland. You can buy a catalogue or find it on line. One in the Lakes too.

What type of subject are you after?

fridacakehole · 23/01/2022 09:17

Art Republic. My problem has always been choosing 'the one'! I think they also have payment schemes if you want to invest a little more?

marmite1980 · 24/01/2022 18:17

I've recently used a new art rental called Gertrude - gertrude.com/
Loads of great works from established and emerging artists, you just pay £50/month, really flexible and convenient - can buy it at any point or if you don't like just send it back!

DoubleChin2 · 25/01/2022 14:20

Oh amazing, I read about them in The Sunday Times Style and was considering a couple of works on there, was a bit worried about delivery and installation though, what were your experiences on that front @marmite1980

marmite1980 · 25/01/2022 14:24

@DoubleChin2 - I was worried about that too - but all good, it was really straightforward with free delivery and depending on the size of the work they also offer a free installation service. I'll take a photo of the work and post it later

DoubleChin2 · 25/01/2022 14:27

Wow, it sounds super straightforward, I've heard horror stories from friends who've bought directly from Galleries having to pay loads for art handlers so that's a relief to hear! Did I understand right these are all unique works of art and not editions or prints? Thanks for your feedback @marmite1980

TarDisKinseia · 25/01/2022 14:28

Our library has local artists on display - we found one new artist that way. Some independent cafés and restaurants will also display local artists.

marmite1980 · 25/01/2022 14:30

@DoubleChin2 yep they're all unique works by i think mainly emerging artists, so you might end up with something by the next Tracey Emin etc!

DoubleChin2 · 25/01/2022 14:32

Oh amazing, I really like the thought of discovering some cool artist early in their career, I'm gonna pull the trigger on a work I've had my eye on on Gertrude

MrsKDB · 25/01/2022 14:35

Affordable Art Fair is my go to

cookiemonster2468 · 25/01/2022 14:37

Go to local art galleries, art shops, look up exhibitions that are happening near you.

Ask at galleries for names of local artists making the kind of thing you are interested in and follow them on instagram, also look at who they follow and are engaging with.

There is a huge art community on instagram and many artists advertise their work on there.

Countytee · 26/01/2022 22:02

Jumping on this thread to say what an amazing gaggle of ideas.
Where we are there are no local galleries or art shops to look in( or

A costa etc!) .
. .. so the online refernces are great.
As is the reminder to support individual artists via print shows etc which I would be happy to save up for and travel to rather than buying something not really cherished .
