Does anyone have one of these and are they safe?

We got one for my 11 year old at Xmas. After a few weeks I sat on it and it toppled over.

I asked for my money back and the guy in the shop said they do if you don't face exactly straight forward,

She flipping loves it so we are devastated but can't obviously leave it up for her mates to come over and break their necks. Gutted!

Can't you secure it to the floor?

Snoopbeef · 10/01/2022 16:04

Sadly not. Our floor wouldn't take that pressure Confused

I have had one for several years and it's never fallen over.

I haven't given up on this so if anyone has any recommendations of one they have bought I would love to hear about it.

Could you not get the parasol weights and sit it on the back?

tootyfruitypickle · 10/01/2022 20:44

I've got a different one I use outside (aren't they massive for inside!) from the garden centre and one of the main brands, they're in stock again now i think. I sit in it a lot in the summer and never fallen over - it's very sturdy. Would definitely return your one

As a pp said buy from a reputed brand with a heavy base. Tbh I think the shop owner was just saying it to save face - these types of chairs are common in India where you often have nothing but cement underneath. Nobody falls over there.

They are not designed for strenuous use, and yes, you have to be facing a certain way to ensure the counterbalance works. Could always stick a couple of sandbags over the base bit to give it more stability? I probably wouldn't have other kids swinging on it anyway in case they swing around and break it, it's more for a gentle swing, if that makes sense, not a toy
