Tips for decorating my living room?

Hi, I moved into my house last year and have decorated and got the house quite cosy (I think) but am struggling a bit with my living room. Want to warm it up a bit but don't like very bright colours and I'm finding it difficult with the grey floors which I want to cover eventually. Does anyone have any ideas for what would help to warm it up a little bit Smile thank you

You say you don't like bright colours, but you could still add colours instead of neutrals. The wall above the vase of flowers is perfect for a big painting or framed print.

I'd be tempted to swap the floor rug, cushions and throw for some with colour. If you look at this link to an ad for a large dark leather sofa, see how they have softened its impact in a neutrally painted room with lots of cushions and a floor rug in warm colours, as well as a large house plant and some eye catching objects on the window sill.

A large picture or print as already suggested.
Could you move the TV. Something about it being next to the windows doesn't seem quite right to me and I think a large plant would look lovely in that corner.

Lamps. A tall lamp to the left of the window left of the television. Put a small table under the mirror and put a table lamp on it. You might want to find a few cushions in slightly larger sizes. Yours are very nice but too uniform to feel cosy.

In other words you would keep the cushions you have, and add a larger size so you have two different sizes.

Pictures etc on the walls, darker curtains with cushions that tone in. Warmer coloured rug.

I'd add colour via soft furnishings/accessories as they are easy to change.

I'd put a huge potted plant on the floor by the window in a striking pot, with a painting, poster or framed photo on the wall behind it.

Move the tiny pictures above TV. It looks out of place. Put that with a group of small pictures, maybe on the wall by or around the mirror (which is lovely. Id use that as a basis for a slightly more dramatic, earthy style in accessories.

Change the sofas. Colour and material feels cold.

Maybe trying building up changes/cost slowly. I’m in the process of changing my living room. Walls will be Portland Stone (by Little Greene) and doors/beams/skirting etc will be Loft White (also by LG).

I’m then budgeting for 2 lots of curtains/cushions - one set in rich warm tones for winter, and the other set in more spring-like colours. It means that I’ll get a “new” look every six months which doesn’t cost the earth after the initial outlay (which doesn’t need to be expensive in the first place.

Basically, if you have a good base with the decor, you really can switch up the look of a room with the accessories.

Change the throw and cover the cushions for a single colour you want to theme the room. Choose one warm colour for the winter and a cooler one for the summer and as suggested like at curtains which match each season.

Perhaps shade of blue or reds/ pinks rich for winter and lighter shades for the summer
