Pros and cons of bed frame options please

Currently unable to decide between a storage divan bed or a regular bed frame with space underneath for storage boxes

The house is small so need to maximise storage space however DH is an untidy bastard that takes the piss. I don't want the space under the bed to become dusty scalextric storage or want to be able too see a pile of under bed shite. However i do need somewhere to store bedding. I'm wondering if the lift up storage ones must be heavy with a mattress and a total faff?

Can you tell me the pros and cons of the different bed frame options in your experience?

We bought a lift up ottoman one (furniture village sale) and love it! We decided on one so we would have more storage in the bedroom without things being on display and it’s been brilliant, we love it. We don’t find it heavy or a faff to be honest, it has a gas air lift so not too heavy to lift and there’s so much space underneath.

I’ve got an ottoman bed with a super king size mattress on it and can lift by myself

Gas airlift you say Smile I need to investigate this

I've tested out a lift up divan and they aren't too heavy. I'll be placing an order for one shortly to replace our bed which has a frame. I hadn't appreciated that we can fit a king size divan in the same space as a double bed with a frame. If space is at a premium it's worth thinking about this.

Ok I see, the John Lewis ottomans have hydraulic arms. This is news. Thank you.

I think the hydraulics are a game changer.

DH can have his side as untidy as he likes if I don't have to look at it or stub my toes on random things poking out

If you have pets or young kids I'd be wary of the lift up ottoman ones, I've heard of some dreadful accidents. Without the hydraulic options they can be very heavy to lift, which would put me off.

Having lived in a lot of tiny flats over the years I have always preferred a bed frame so I can store stuff underneath, but as you say, it can look very untidy.

So I would probably go for some kind of divan with good storage drawers.

IKEA are all about storage so you can mix and match a frame with storage for underneath.

No very small kids or pets so thinking should be fine.
I will soon be the smallest in the house.
