Hello

After being stranded for days with no heat and electricity we are fitting a log burner as back up heat

We have two positions and we can't decide

We have a open plan kitchen/conservatory

First is where TV in conservatory and second is were Tree is at top end of kitchen / dining part

See photos

Which would you choose

Sorry presses to quickly. I think it'd be cosy having it near the sofa space.

Is put it in the area you spend the most time in, if it's all open plan then the heat will circulate anyway. We keep all our doors open so some of the heat goes upstairs

We have a jotul. It gets hot really fast. Also we can boil a kettle or cook a casserole on the hot plate.

I think I would put the stove centrally in the room on the wall where the dining table is and move the table where the tree is.
You will need to see where a flue can be fitted with regard to external walls and distances from opening windows and neighbouring properties.

I agree with your husband that you should look at a fire. They’re lovely to look at.

I totally understand why you want it. Ours has been a life saver in many a power cut.

I agree - then it would be between the sofa and table and more of a feature.

I think it’s odd to put it in the conservatory. It’d be better on a main wall, not one that’s half-glass.

We moved from rural oil heating to modern house kitchen all electric gas central heating. Didn't want another log burner but have now changed our mind. Ours was on inside wall heated sitting room and kitchen, heat also drifted upstairs. Think where you will put your log store too because someone has to go out for more logs in bad weather

I'm pretty indecisive and we already had a chimney breast and fireplace so it was simple for us, I'm not sure on either of those locations to be honest, but can see if you put it where the table is you'd have to move the sofas to be looking in, rather than out at the views. Which would be a shame.
I would say that Aldi have their stove top fan on special buy at the moment, we have one and it's really good at circulating the warm air, MIL returned her much more expensive version after a visit to us, in favour of the Aldi one which she says is much better.

@daisypond I get what you are saying with windows and heat the thing is sitting there can actually be cold even with normal heating on due to the windows I assume. So I'm now thinking if the burner was that end it would help heat that part of the house.

Looking on Instagram a photos and lots do have them in front of conservatory windows and it actually looks nice, prob not as clean a look as up a wall but still looks ok, not too stuck on if that makes sense.

Here is a example
