What sort of curtains would suit my dining room?

Hairbrush123 · 26/11/2021 21:38

So I moved into my new home recently and the previous owner left their curtains but we aren’t a fan of them.

Any ideas what would suit the decor of this room?
Thanks

Do you need curtains? They look like new windows and doors so you don’t for warmth and if that’s your garden, you don’t for privacy. Take the curtain rails down, make good the walls and it’d be uncluttered and lovely.

Never thought of no curtains. I will run that through DP. But yes that is my garden. Thanks!

I think it would be too sparse/echoey without curtains. Especially as you’ve got a hard flooring

I’d go with floor length. Colour depends on if you’re decorating or not. Especially for winter anyway. If you like it to feel cosy.

Floor to rail velvet, you need
To dress them!

CloverClove · 26/11/2021 22:21

I wouldn't have curtains either. Lovely garden view out the back. Maybe a patterned privacy film on the left hand windows/door or window blinds

I like the curtain rails you've got, and I think the room will look very bare with nothing.

you could go for floor-length linen light weight curtains on both windows? Unlined and unfussy.

Hairbrush123 · 26/11/2021 22:28

Okay thanks all. I was looking into velvet curtains. I think I would like curtains in the dining room as it would be too echoey as a PP mentioned.

Lovely room!
I would get sheer white or off white panels (eg ikea)

They will dress the room but keep it simple and clean. Also add houseplants Grin I love a plant

No curtains, Roman blinds, try Blinds2Go, you get some gorgeous ones In beautiful materials like silk or velvet.

Cornonthecobblers · 26/11/2021 22:38

I’d go floor length white or a light colour to keep the room as light and airy as possible but just enough material to frame the windows if you don’t need them shut.

I bought these mock brushed silk (John Lewis), off EBay last year for about £60. They're brand new. I had to shorten them slightly but l'm very pleased with them. They reduce echo and are lined so keep the room warm in chilly weather

I'd go for a neutral with a bit of pattern/interest, picture as an example of the sort of look I mean. I'm by no means any kind of expert though!

Could people really sit in there when it's dark and not close the curtains? I'd hate all the blackness from outside staring in at me. Maybe I'm odd...

It's a lovely room OP.

Ooh they are beautiful
CanIPleaseHaveOne · 26/11/2021 22:56

I think you need an actual curtain not drapes. Curtains are much ticker and more luxurious.

What about lining the window - sides top and bottom with a nice blonde wood, shelf deep across the bottom? Like a -fake- inexpensive Oriel!

InFiveMins · 26/11/2021 23:03

Definitely wouldn't go for curtains. Some nice blinds would look lovely in there.

Hairbrush123 · 27/11/2021 08:06

Thank you to those commenting on my dining room! I really love the decor of the room so far.

@blowtheroofoff those curtains are stunning! I honestly think they’d go with my dining room and John Lewis appear to have some in my local branch so may look later to see what it’s like in real life.

Would blinds and curtains be naff? I have a window on the right I didn’t include in the photo so I would have to get blinds for that window too.

Looking at PP bargain gorgeous curtains, you should go for something like this but definitely add some large indoor plants. Even one of those ‘almost a tree’ huge pots with something exotic in…

I was honestly thinking that myself! Aren’t those curtains gorgeous?! The plants sound like a good idea - I was thinking about an artificial olive tree or something. Thanks!

Artificial would be hassle free. If you wanted general greeenry, Dunelm has really good silk/fake things. Not sure if Dunelm is countrywide or not!
