Has anyone got green window frames?

We are replacing all the windows in our house and can't decide on the colour. We had thought of a silvery grey but it may look too modern. Now we are looking at Painswick which is a greeny grey. I think it's also called agate grey. Has anyone got window in this colour?

There are a lot of new housing estates going up near me. Some have traditional white windows and many have grey. I think grey will become dated, as will any non white shades.

FindMeInTheSunshine · 21/11/2021 08:39

We don't, but bumping for you. I've seen them on a few houses where they look lovely, but definitely on the more period houses, or modern but Cotswold stone type.

Zarene · 21/11/2021 08:43

My parents do, a soft sage green. It looks lovely with pinky London brick.

It's been like that for decades (as have a few other houses in the street), and doesn't look dated.

Theplantisgrowing · 21/11/2021 08:45

I have, it does look lovely, well I think it does! Don't think it dates tbh

FingersofFish · 21/11/2021 08:47

We had dark green replaced now by a pale sage as have had upvc replacements. I love it and people always say how nice it looks. Neighbours have gone for grey which I also really like but was worried it would date.

I think it really depends on the brick of your house. There's a house round the corner from me that has sage green windows that stand out far too strongly against the brick (large, possibly 1930s house). In theory it's a soft colour but it doesn't look right. It's crittal style, which I love, but every time I pass I think how much better they would look if they were black!

ApolloandDaphne · 21/11/2021 09:06

The house is 24 years old but built to match the style of the houses around us as we live rurally on an old estate. We are removing the roughcast and rendering in a soft cream. We are also redoing our garden to make it more beautiful and country style. I think the grey window we originally decided on will look too modern and that's why we are now considering this green/grey.

Our windows are currently black and they look much too harsh. We hate them.

I think they can look very nice with the right brick or stone. Without it it might not age well. I have white and a green door which is a lovely compromise and looks lovely.

tilder · 21/11/2021 09:12

I personally think grey windows an the grey plastic fake wood cladding will date the same way dark wood frames have.

Black crittal looks beautiful in old brick, the pale green is very cottage. Depends on your style of house really. Paint is easy to change, plastic frames less so.

ApolloandDaphne · 21/11/2021 09:18

They will be metal wrapped wooden frames. They are expensive so we need to get it right.

AwkwardPaws27 · 21/11/2021 09:22

Could you get wood so you can paint them (rather than metal wrapped wood)?
More maintenance but if you decide sage is out in 5 years you can easily change the colour.

ApolloandDaphne · 21/11/2021 09:22

This picture gives you an idea of the frames in a pale rendered house

I think they are really classy and would have had them myself but have a large lovely conservatory in a mid oak colour and needed to tie new windows colour wise into that. Having gone to the expense of having a proper roof on the conservatory, changing colour wasn't an option but my exterior doors are pale green.

17to35 · 21/11/2021 10:44

I think it will be lovely in that setting.

Intheopinionofourexpert · 21/11/2021 10:50

Our neighbour painted her windows that colour. It looked lovely - the houses are pale honey coloured stone cottages if that helps?

Are you having the windows white inside? I'd definitely do that.

Windows will be white inside. At the moment all the wood inside the house is a horrible orange pine and so we are changing it all to white with oak doors. We are refurbing inside and out.

I think it will look lovely 😊
We painted the timber sash windows in our last-but-one rural Georgian Shaftesbury greenstone house F&B Green Smoke. They looked so good we chose the same colour for the original Crittal windows and doors at our next house which was Arts and Crafts with pale grey roughcast. It really suited that property too 😉 I'm not a fan of the current trend for dark grey or black windows.

tootiredtospeak · 22/11/2021 08:00

Personally I think that's too light for a rendered house and would go darker to make it stand out or go the colour of that the door and dormer cladding.

That's not actually my house though.

Fair enough but presumably it's similar enough for you to post it and its rendered not stone or brick. So my opinion would be the same that green is too light against render. Only my opinion though it's your house and money.

sleepyhoglet · 05/12/2021 17:39

Yes and they are lovely. It is in the countryside though and with a cream render
