Dining table lighting - is it worth spending more?

I'm in the midst of renovating my ground floor and my budget has taken a bit of whallop with some unexpected structural work.

Anyway, all back on track and I would say I have a reasonable budget of about £70k. That is for kitchen, flooring throughout the whole ground floor, new bathroom units, created a new utility room in the garage, some structural work, new front and back door, new interior doors throughout and a decorator.

I have been wrestling to find a dining table light I love, nothing has really done it. I found one I love and can kind of design myself with hand blown glass pendants.

The one I really like is about £1800 Shock. Not helped by the fact I need to get it shipped over from Europe. I can afford it, but that isn't the point. I've never paid more than £60 for a light. On the other hand, everything else is going to be of very decent quality, better than the crappy kitchen I have lived with for 17 years.

Is it worth blowing the bext part of £2k on one light, or am I losing perspective?.....even writing that sentence makes me realise it is too much....

Umm I wouldn't....

Honestly, no. Get a paper lampshade or something from a charity shop just to cover the bulb, then wait till your decision fatigue/ project is over and at some point "the" light will hove into view. £2k out of £70 on one light is not, as you have already realised, a good use of your money! And you don't have to spend your entire budget, of course...

I am also struggling with this question and have bought a nice, cheap shade until the one I really want and can afford presents itself. There are so many options out there, you will find one at a price somewhere between £60 and £1800 eventually.

Agree with @Zinnia - maybe let decision fatigue pass?

Saying this I spent £550 on my dining table light because I had been in love with it since I say it in my friends parents house when I was 18 (I am now 32) and when I bought my first home I knew I wanted a beautiful striking light. And as much as everyone thought I was crackers at the time I love it and I enjoy it every single day. I have it low over the table and it does feel like a piece of art. I live in a very average (but lovely) bungalow for perspective Grin

Have you looked at Curiousa? They do gorgeous pendants in the UK - I was really wanted one in my bedroom (but realised I was going to far at this point for my budget). If I had the money though then I would look there.

Goodness I had sleepless nights spending £350 on my hall light in my last property! I think your budget is tight, so no, I wouldn't spend that much money. Also have you shopped around - I fell in love with a light I saw in a Neptune for £645 and found almost the exact same for £220 after doing an image search.

There's me bailing at £120 for a rattan one from Cox & Cox! The most expensive one I've ever bought was from Laura Ashley, which was £90 in the sale.

Do you have a photo of the one you want op? Maybe we can help find something similar a little cheaper, or even cement in your mind this one is perfect and to go ahead with buying it.
There is a uk company called Roast www.roastdesigns.co.uk/ who make beautiful chandelier type light fittings to your spec. I don't know if this is the type you are after. I also keep getting ads on Instagram about Tom Dixon www.tomdixon.net/en_gb/shop/lighting/ceiling.html who sells beautiful large glass lampshades at around the £600 mark.
