I'm useless at decor. I have a lovely house but it's so tatty because I hate decorating & find choosing colours, furniture etc really stressful because I'm clueless. However, I've seen some wallpaper that I really like & I'm tempted to have a go at completely redoing my living room. Is that how it's done? Pick something you really like then base everything else around it?

I've never really been bothered before but my kids are now past the 'trashing things' stage so I'm feeling like I might finally be able to have a home I'm proud of. I'm worried I'll get it all wrong though. Are there people I can hire who'll advise me what to buy/do? And if there are, will I need a 2nd mortgage to pay for them? I usually just slap magnolia pain everywhere & get whatever ikea furniture looks sturdy & the right size.

Oh heck, I'm stressing just thinking about it. Where & how do I start?

I've never wallpapered! But if you decide to paint, the way I've been picking paint colours is using the dulux visualiser app. It will give a bit of a clue what it would look like on your wall, although not all that accurate. But what's really useful is when you select a colour it will bring you up combinations of other colours that will work with it.

There are hundreds of 'how to' vids on youtube. (Of course, they all say different!)

I would spend a few days watching them before deciding if I could do it.

Send us a pic op and we can give our 2 pence

You could just do a feature wall.
The easiest one - ie not too many switches and things to cut around.

If you want neutral then you can use the brighter suggestions the app gives you to pick stuff that'll work, like cushions, throws or pictures.

I also wander around on Pinterest until I find a style I like.

If you are redoing the whole room ( furniture included) then look around Pinterest ( a lot!)

Someone will have that wall paper.

If you hate doing it, and the wall paper is an investment, get a decorator in to do it for you. Honestly. If you don't quite get it right, you'll spend more fixing it/ or be sad for ages looking at your wonky wall.

That's the problem with 'having a go'.
I dread to think how many hours, and how much money I have wasted, realising I'm not able to do something myself after the event, and then having to sort it out all over again.

Lets see the wallpaper Smile

This is that wallpaper. I've got dark wood fire surround, blinds, tv cabinet & sideboard which I'd like to keep but want new sofas & flooring plus paint the rest of the room. My sister is great at papering & has said she'll put it up on the fireplace wall for me.

Living room currently has a dark brown painted wall around the fireplace & magnolia everywhere else.

It's great. Would go well with touches of a pale mustard/gold

I have never wallpapered as I prefer paint but I absolutely love that wallpaper - where can I get it please?

I also second the dulux app
