Use a toast rack?

Love this toast rack:

Do people actually use toast racks though? Doesn't the toast just go cold? We are a family of three so can't see many more options that toast straight to plate

Cold hotel toast (because of the toast racks) is the best!
I wouldn’t use one at home though.

You can get some lovely vintage ceramic ones. I have one but I've used it about twice.

No

Make toast

Eat it straight away

No time for toast rack

Cold toast is chewy

Yes I use one for weekend breakfasts. I like luke warm toast, it requires more butter.

Cold toast cut in triangles with cold, hard country life butter….. yum

Thighdentitycrisis · 15/11/2021 20:31

Family had one when I was a child
Those were the days of lots of people wanting toast and mum being a housewife making it in the kitchen under the grill though

Different times

Are there people that like cold toast?! The last time I was this shocked was when I found out that there are people who like their towels thin and scratchy! In both cases I thought that everyone just endured them as sad and unfortunate occasional facts of life, before MN taught me that some people actively prefer them!

I use one when we have a full English breakfast, Dh does his toast seperately because he only likes it hot, but I like it cold with a full English, with lots of butter. I use one I got free with a pack of lurpack years ago! like this

I use one because I believe ALL cooked food needs to rest. In the case of toast, not for long, I pour my tea while it has a little rest

Never had one at home, but I think the point is to avoid sogginess rather than to make it go cold, although go cold it does.

Personally if I was going to get one I’d go for a nice utilitarian stainless steel rack. I have a strange aversion for kitchen items that have the name of the intended contents printed on the outside.

I got one in Oxfam for 20p and use it when people are staying, very rarely. So you might find a nice one in a charity shop.

We always use toast racks for the toast that’s not going directly on to the plate.

livingthegoodlife · 20/11/2021 19:42

We use one every day. It goes in the middle of the table so everyone can help themselves. Usually the children eat their egg and cereal first before having toast. Saves me getting up and down a hundred times.

Ours is metal though.
