Hemnes Day Bed mattress size

My daughter loves the look of IKEA's Hemnes Day Bed and it looks like it ticks all my boxes for practicality. But looking at the mattress sizing and reviews it looks like it might only fit an 80cm mattress. Her current mattress is 90cm and really good for her back. Does anyone have experience of these beds and can advise if its a 'roomy' 80cm or will her 90cm mattress will be an impossible squeeze?

My DD had one and we did just pull it out a bit to fit the 90cm mattress. It actually extends to a small double

I have this bed and the matress is a bit smaller than normal single mattress, the fitting sheet for single bed don't fit great on it and IKEA don't sell the fitting sheet for this size which is stupid but other than that it is a nice bed

I bought this without the properly sized mattress abs there is a bit of overhang which is fine but means that a second mattress when it’s the full size bed has a much bigger overhang. If that makes sense. I wish I had just gotten the two small sized mattresses at the time tbh.

It's 80cm width mattress. You couldn't fit the 90cm in it without pulling it out slightly as if you were making the double. I'd go and test it out in store and see if you think it would be rickety/look ok.

We just bought the IKEA mattress that goes with it. It's true that standard sheets are a bit baggy on it and constantly come off.

How old is your daughter? My small for her age 13 year old had this bed until recently and complained about it being too small so we've moved her to a standard single now. She loved it when we first got it for her when she was 10 .

We never use the bottom pull out bed as the wooden slats were so flimsy that anyone using it had to be careful not to walk on it/ stand on it and sadly 10 year olds on sleepovers are not very careful so the first time we used it one of the slats was damaged.

It's a lovely looking bed when it's made up nicely but was actually a bit of a pain to make each day and DD got very fed up with it. We just have it in the spare room now.

Another thing to bear in mind if you are going to be pulling it out, you need to have the room to do that or arrange other furniture so it can be moved out of the way. It's proven to be a bit of a palaver to do this. Both our DDs have them and I wish we'd just gotten double beds.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, think we might have to keep on looking around.
