Hello
Looking to replace my knackered duvet. Anyone got experience of a wool duvet please?

Good / bad / indifferent ?

Thanks hive mind

I love mine, I bought a baavet nine years ago and it's still in really good condition, I bought a medium weight one (they don't rate them in togs) and it works all year round, except for very hot nights.
The only downside is that it is quite a dark cream colour, which shows through when you have white bedding.

Lovely!

I got mine from The Wool Room.

I got ours from Soak and Sleep after reading several recommendations on mumsnet.

TBH I prefer the way duvets with softer fillings drape around me and the way they feel. I wouldn't buy another one.

I have one from soak and sleep and I love it. It is super king size and really heavy, I struggle to change the duvet cover but that is it's only downside.

For summer I have a lightweight silk duvet and I really love that, more I think than the wool one.

I have two Baavet duvets. I really rate them and would buy another. I find they don't get sweaty and they keep you quite warm and quite cool as required. I bought bargain box ones with slightly dodgy stitching.

I agree with the previous poster that they are quite cream coloured so if you have thin, pale duvet covers it does show through.

It's also true they don't bend exactly like other duvets. I really like the way they drape but I can see the point if you like to cocoon.

I loved mine BUT it turned out there was no proper way to wash it! The shop I bought it from said “you don’t need to wash it, just lay it in the sun once a year.” I answered “I do need to wash it, my child has vomited all over it.”

So I tried the dry cleaner, who was very reluctant to touch it because they said wool that thick traps the toxic chemicals and they can’t guarantee that it won’t give off toxic fumes after the wash!!

I wouldn’t have one again, no. But it was lovely when new.

We have a baavet duvet and mattress topper, both from the bargain basement. I love them. They are warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot. I bought them at the height of menopausal night sweats and was actually able to sleep at night.

Fantastic - from the wool room.

I have recently got one from Baavet, on the back of recommendations from MN. Quite happy with it - it's light and warm but not "sweaty".

As one of PPs said, it's worth keeping an eye on their Bargain Box, where the stock is updated quite often - with a bit of patience you can nab a good deal. I've kept on checking it daily for about 10 days and managed to get our duvet, which has only an insignifcant stitching fault, for almost 30% less.

Well Thankyou everyone. I took the plunge and the new duvet arrived today Grin!

I ended up investing and getting an alpaca one from Devon duvets. It promises to be a bit lighter and softer than traditional wool, and is very white in colour, which is good after the comment upstream about showing through the duvet covers.

I knit and have worked with alpaca - it's my favourite yarn, so hoping that the quilt lives up to that!

Thankyou all for your input, I'll report back tomorrow Smile

I have a wool Devon duvet and love it. V eager to hear how you get on with the alpaca OP. Hope you love it.!

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/11/2021 17:52

I love my Devon Duvets wool duvet too. I also got some pima cotton bed linen (was half price) and it's heavenly - like silk!

Oddbutnotodd · 12/11/2021 08:45

I love mine - a quite lightweight one from soak and sleep. I think white duvet covers will be fine as long as the thread count is high enough so they’re not see through.

ablutiions · 12/11/2021 21:30

So night 1 was lovely. Cosy and soft and warm !

Thankyou everyone for your input and guidance!

The Devon Duvets are by far the best imo.
