New log burner and hearth installed -How to lay carpet (with picture!)

I recently had a log burner re-installed as it had been installed incorrectly by the previous owners. The hearth was laid over laminate floor - I paid foe this all to be removed and the stove put on a granite hearth and the laminate floor underneath removed (so on floorboards) as I’m going to carpet.

I went out for the day and when I had returned the stove was installed, but the granite hearth was raised on concrete. At first I wondered if this was because the floor was not level, but even if this was the case why so high? It’s around 3cm to the start of the hearth and I’m concerned that underlay and carpet won’t hide the cement.

Before I speak to the installers - does anyone know if there’s a reason they didn’t just lay the granite hearth on the floorboards?! Why raise it so much? And how do I hide it if the new carpet doesn’t cover the concrete (and there’s a gap in the middle where there’s no concrete too)

The carpet fitters would be able to run the carpet up that little bit to completely cover it, if there wasn’t missing concrete, you may have to fill that gap if the people who installed it say it needs to be raised like that for some reason.

I think they concreted it in to avoid possible movement with the floorboards. You can screed the floor arounding the hearth to make it look level prior to carpet laying. This is what the previous owners did in my property.
