Suite recover or buy new?

I have a suite which when I bought it 14 years ago was very expensive.
It is good quality and has been in my 'good' room so has taken no real abuse.

I am now redoing my room and am thinking of having suite recovered.
I know the upholsterer's work and it is excellent . However I could buy new suite for price of recovering.

So, my question is, have any of you recovered a suite and regretted it?

I had a suite recovered in a beautiful Designers Guild velvet. I stupidly assumed that I could sponge any marks that appeared but even a lightly dampened cloth left a water mark.

I think if that had been the case in a new sofa I may have had more recompense. As it is eight years later I still have the sofa with ruined seat cushions and a large throw

So in answer to your questions I regret it but only because I chose the wrong fabric. The sofas fit my room perfectly but next time when they need covering/replacing I will be replacing them but they will be almost 25 years old then.

I would get recovered, or get loose covers mde. I recovered my own with loose washable covers and it extended the life for years. Depending on whether you have messy family members, this may be a good option?

Years ago we were burgled. The swines took one of our sofa seat covers to carry the swag away. Home insurance paid the cost of re upholstery of both (matching) sofas - but we decided to buy a new suite instead.
The original sofas were not the best quality so it made sense to upgrade. If we had loved them we would have had them upholstered, I think.

Yours are good quality. How much do you love them?

Thank you @user1497787065 @Maskedstranger @rosegoldwatcher

It's not that I particularly love the suite but I'm not type of person to change suite every few years and I expect if I get this suite recovered it will do for10 years.Blush it's the quality of it I like. I have bought cheaper suites (£1200)for my every day room and the quality is awful they feel like sitting on board.
Because I'm not type to chop and change when I do make a change i want it to be right. It will cost in excess of £2000 to cover .

In that case I would recommend making a day of sofa window shopping in a town large enough to have both a John Lewis and a Marks and Spencer (with furniture showroom.)

You might just see one, within budget, that you love!
