Help 1960s bungalow no ceiling lights

Hi everyone

I've viewed and want to offer on a 60s bungalow but on viewing noticed that none of the rooms have ceiling lights just wall lights.

Ideally I'd like to have a mix, but just wondered what I need to look out for / think about? Would it be costly or any restrictions due to building etc? Complete newbie so apologies if this is obvious:) thanks

My main concern would be there might be asbestos in the ceiling plaster/artex - that would make it difficult to put lights through. Your surveyor might be able to check this for you or there are test kits you can send a sample away to.

Ah fab, thank you. I hadn't considered asbestos!

Might be straight forward depending which way your ceiling joists run in relation to the existing circuit.
As pp said, the main issue would be in the artex containing asbestos.
I believe Artex is classed as low risk, but still shouldn't be sanded drilled etc.
There are methods of drilling it safely.

You could get your ceilings removed, which would make it even easier to put a new lighting circuit in. But it would probably cost you £2k to take them down and another £2k to put them back up.
