  • would you want a range cooker provided or a gap left so you can
choose your own?
  • would you prefer mostly cupboards with one set of wide drawers (for
pans utensils etc) or a second set of drawers (for crockery etc)?
  • is a tall larder cupboard a 'must'?
Thanks!

Yes to a tall larder cupboard.

I prefer drawers to cupboards.

And cooker as long as not actually built in then don't really mind as long as it works!

Agree with previous poster.

DramaAlpaca · 03/10/2021 15:22

Yes to the larder cupboard (though ideally a separate larder like I currently have)

Definitely lots of drawers.

I wouldn't want a range cooker at all, even though I like the look of them, too much bending down required. Separate gas hob and double electric oven all the way for me.

LazyDoll · 03/10/2021 15:30

If range is the option (I’d prefer double oven in tall unit and induction hob) I’d choose the Rangemaster Elise. Just love it!

2 sets of drawers. Minimum. Much more accessible that cupboards.

I’d definitely like a 5/600mm tall larder unit with pullout storage wire work and/or a pantry style larder with spice racks and space inside to store toaster and appliances to keep work surface clear.

Im going to be awkward and say I'd try to avoid buying a house with a brand new kitchen unless it was really well laid out and to my tastes... unfortunately many we looked at were not. But yes to including a range cooker, yes to drawers and yes to a tall larder cupboard... in fact include as much storage as you can, nothing worse than a kitchen without enough storage!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 03/10/2021 15:37

Pan drawers pan drawers pan drawers!!!!

Drawers all the way. Tall larder cupboard a plus. Main thing for me would be ability to change the look so paintable cupboard doors! Plus neutral worktop etc. If you are doing up to sell, then a professional design plan would be a good investment.

Rummikubfan · 07/10/2021 13:36

I really really wouldn’t want a range cooker or space for one.

I want a 5 burner induction hob and 2 full side ovens at eye height. A range cooker would really put me off as I would have to replace it and find more cupboards for the space.

A larger cupboard is great but with individual pull out drawers

Oliack1417 · 07/10/2021 13:40

Yes to all the drawers, and the tall larder cupboard! Not sure about cooker as I have induction.

Why are you installing a new kitchen to sell? Most people would much prefer to choose their own.
I'd hate a brand new kitchen that didn't actually suit, I'd feel guilty ripping it out to start again.

SisforSoppy · 07/10/2021 15:59

@GreyhoundG1rl totally agree. If the current kitchen is falling apart I’d put in the cheapest kitchen I could find so it looks better.
I’ve looked at so many houses and even some really high end ones just have shitty cupboards, no drawers and a larger larder (which I don’t like). Also the cooker thing is so individual. I love an electric range. I hate the aga in our current house. I also hate in cupboard ovens…..everyone’s eye height is different. Our built in microwave is positioned so that I lift items out at forehead height….it’s so dangerous. Needless to say we are getting a new kitchen.

Thanks all for your replies. My partner is doing up a property which was pretty derelict, so the 'kitchen' was in a lean-to that's been demolished. It's now an - extended - kitchen diner with bifold doors etc. He's going for a magnet kitchen ('tribeca' I think) in a neutral pebble colour, see my other post. It's quite a big space but he wants to maximise worksurface space. The rage works best for that and for the layout generally, but we wondered about leaving a space for it rather than choosing one.

Lots of drawers for me. My kitchen only had 3 narrow drawers when we moved in and we had to store extra utensils in a jar on the counter. Larder cupboard are brilliant but not so essential.

I'd rather a built in induction hob or a gas hob and a separate oven. A range cooker or space for a range cooker would put me off. I find them a pain to clean (both on top and in the little side gaps where every crumb gathers and multiplies). If I couldn't be certain that I could find the same kitchen range in stock to fill the gap I wouldn't consider the house (I'd want to rip the kitchen out but would feel guilty about the waste of a new kitchen).

Caspianberg · 11/10/2021 12:18

Drawers.
Induction range cooker
No need for tall larder if enough drawers and storage elsewhere ie some people use for hoover/ mop etc

chipsandpeas · 11/10/2021 12:21

drawers - i have 3 drawers, one for cutlery, one for pans and one for odds and sods, and i really would prefer a few more and will be the top of my list if/when i get a new kitchen

EerilyDisembodied · 11/10/2021 12:33

Space for range cooker (I'd bring my existing one or buy new to fit the space). Definitely not built in oven and hob, preferably no built in appliances at all apart from extractor fan, which is a must.

Paintable doors, not shaker, in a pale colour so they are easy to paint.

Lots of drawers but not those ones inside bigger drawers or cupboards.

Tall larder to make best use of space but not with those pull out rack things. Another tall cupboard for mop etc if no utility.
