Kitchen respraying

Hi all

I was looking for some opinions on hetti go the kitchen cabinets professionally resprayed.

My cabinets are currently dark grey and i would like to lighten them up to match the rest of the house. A friend recommended a company to professionally respray all the cabinets who have given me a quote of £2,350.

I will get another quote or two but does that sound sensible? Or is it worth waiting a few years and getting the units actually replaced and the kitchen redone as originally planned?

Or is it even worth just painting the kitchen cabinets ourselves?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure on the quotes side of things but I have just decided to paint mine whilst I save up for a new kitchen. I decided this after getting a quote to replace the doors and was shocked that it's essentially the price of a new kitchen.

On the painting side of things, how handy are you and how much of something similar have you done in the past? I guess the reason I am asking is that it takes a fair bit of time and patience to get a really good finish. I know for me I've practised a few times on bargain basement doors - I want to have a good finish in my kitchen if I'm going to be in there every day! Also how many doors do you have to do (and also factor in plinths, end panels etc). Just something to bear in mind when deciding.

Thanks - I have painted walls before and i have a week off in October so I think I'm going to paint them myself - obviously they wont look as good as professional.

But like you, the whole kitchen will be replaced in five or so years I imagine the best bet is to save £2.3k now and go all out on new units, cabinets and white goods further down the line!

Thanks for your help!

Good luck, I've really enjoyed doing mine. My cabinets are MDF and I've found the Zinser 123 shellac primer is the best for the job and applied it using a roller so it goes on nice and smooth (I just used a cheap small roller for the primer as it dries so fast, I used a brush and it went all streaky!) Then I treated myself to Axus decor (lime) wood rollers - the finish is lovely and worth it over a standard roller. Enjoy!

It has also meant I can try a bit more of an out-there colour combination than what I'd have done if paying for a new kitchen!

I've just booked my kitchen in for a respray too. Like you I'm wanting to buy a couple of years whilst I spend money on other house jobs with higher priority.

It's costing me £990 and is for a kitchen with 12 doors (includes integrated doors for washing machine, dishwasher and tall fridge freezer) and 7 drawer fronts. Colour matched to F&B shade.

Its being done by someone recommended by a number of people and I've seen examples of the work too. For pricing context I'm in Yorkshire.

I hadn't my kitchen resprayed a few years ago - large kitchen in a barn conversion, lots of cabinets - and it was about £800. The company I used were excellent - I'd seen lots of their before and after photographs, so I could see their work, and the finished result was even better than I'd expected. They came in, spent a day masking and sheeting the kitchen, and then the next day sprayed the cabinets, including the inside of the doors so it looked like it had always been like that. The difference it made to my kitchen was unbelievable and worth every penny. They're based in Yorkshire, but travel all over the country. I can't recommend them highly enough.
