How do people achieve this window look?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/08/2021 16:26

I've noticed an advert (M&S - image in next post) & a magazine photo shoot showing white window frames & dark window pane surrounds.

Is this a new thing? I like the look. How is it achieved? The photo shoot has a 'before' picture which looks like the same windows, except they're white inside.

This is from 'Ideal Home' Sept 2021

From an M&S email. Oddly, the second scheme seems to have 'darked on' the windows the other way round.

What is going on? I'm always the last one to know.

Paint?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/08/2021 16:33

Well, yes, that was my first thought. too. But most windows are upvc - you couldn't do it to those, surely?

Either paint or crittal windows in the first photos.

Xiaoxiong · 31/08/2021 16:35

Yes you can paint UPVC - I saw someone do it on Instagram, I think they used a particular kind of rustoleum paint. I will find out the brand/type

SparklingLime · 31/08/2021 16:36

Photoshop or parcel tape?

PragmaticWench · 31/08/2021 16:36

You can easily paint upvc frames.

Yes you can - there are companies that specialise in it and products available to do it yourself. Be wary of painting windows a dark colour inside if you don't have the same room proportions/natural light levels. That said if the main frames and the sills are kept light then it shouldn't be as dark overall.

But if they were Crittal, they'd've had to swop white for black. The makeover article doesn't mention the windows, as far as I can see. I'm thinking if they'd sourced other Crittal windows they would've mentioned it.

Just noticed the makeover cost £56,955 faints clean away

I don't think they're the same windows - they look like new windows.

Painting upvc frames black is just a disaster waiting to happen.

SparklingLime · 31/08/2021 16:39

Genuinely, they use a lot of fakery in these makeovers.

Tinselandlights · 31/08/2021 16:39

You can definitely paint uPVC. There is a Facebook page for Frenchic paint where everyone paints everything in sight including their uPVC front doors.

Xiaoxiong · 31/08/2021 16:40

So an Instagram renovation person used Zinsser all coat exterior matt to paint the upvc windows in her conservatory applied with a sprayer and it worked really well - it looks like the before and after in your OP.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/08/2021 16:41

Heroes - I guess that's why the pics I've seen show half light & half dark.

Ive definitely seen a blog where someone painted these - left parts white and just painted the narrow parts black. It photographed well as the white surround d blended with the white wall, but I think they must look daft irl.
