Help with Hallway paint colour

Wonder if anyone has any suggestions please.

Our house has been painted white internally for a number of years and now we’re started to add some colour.

For ease we are using dulux paint, we’ve let the children choose colours they like (and I do too).

Bedroom 1 - looking for a duck egg blue

Bedroom 2 - dulux denim drift

Bedroom 3 - soft stone

What colour would work alongside all the above in the hallway. Was hoping for a warm natural (Egyptian cotton) but now thinking a grey may work better. Any suggestions gratefully received….Smile

I love Dulux goosedown. I have it in my living room and depending on the light it can appear grey or a very pale blue.

Skimming Stone F and B, or a copy of

We have F&B shadow white (a dupe of) in our hallway, chosen because it brings different colours together. It does have a green undertone though, which works well in our house. I don’t know exactly how it would work for you, but it’s a lovely colour.

Azilliondegrees · 27/08/2021 07:46

As opposed to the skimming stone mentioned, which has pinky undertones. Beautiful colour, we have it in our sitting room.

If you can, use tester pots on big squares of lining paper so you stick them up in situ to get a better idea of how they look.

I thought Dulux Sapphire Salute would suit my son’s room but it was way too dark.

(But we won’t talk about the time we tested 17 shades of teal though 🤦🏻‍♀️😅)

My hall & stairs are chic shadow, it works really well especially since we don’t have any windows on the landing.

MalFunkshun · 27/08/2021 07:58

A nice muted green could work well - have a look at Little Greene’s Aquamarine Pale and Light versions, or even more subtle is their Pendula shade.

As an aside, Johnstone’s paint matching is great as is the quality of their paint!

KidneyBeans · 27/08/2021 08:13

Dulux chic shadow is a lovely warm grey

I think we are going for Dulux willow tree in our hallway, it's a nice pale green. Dh has a pathological hatred of neutral grey, cream, white so all our walls are colourful.

Thank you all, I’ll get some more tester pots. Have a whole wall of different colour testers…

This is hard isn’t it, when you have no confidence with colour…

I think skimming stone is similar to Egyptian cotton, which I liked originally….Smile

From memory, Egyptian cotton has a yellow undertone and skimming stone definitely is more pinky. I know we painted Egyptian cotton somewhere in our old house and re-did it as it didn’t go with the rest of the room. Neutrals are actually super hard because they all have base colours that can dominate depending on what else is in the room.

Equalpayquery · 28/08/2021 07:38

We also had an issue with an older colour, Dulux almost oyster. Looked really pale pink in our living room (to the point it would be on trend now actually), but was a beautiful soft beige in our bedroom.

Teesdale2622 · 28/08/2021 10:35

That’s the thing I really would like a beige neutral more than grey neutral, but trying to work out an undertone that flows to the soft stone (dusky pink) in one bedroom and then denim drift (Chinney) in the other bedroom is very hard… also I don’t want anything too light…Confused

I think you probably want to look at skimming stone to be honest. You say not too light but most hallways are not bright or big so pale colours work best.

Teesdale2622 · 30/08/2021 12:07

Thanks @Equalpayquery I will do,
I’ll have a drive to b&q later…. Am spending small fortune on testers Smile

I've been wanting to paint our hall for a bit and haven't yet found the right shade.

Thanks for the suggestion of Almost Oyster, I'll definitely look at that.

For those saying that they've used a F&B copy of Skimming Stone, can I ask what you used please?

Equalpayquery · 30/08/2021 16:54

To copy any F&B colour Johnstone’s is the best match
