Daughter’s north facing room: Pink Ground, Calamaine?

We’re about to do a bedroom reshuffle and my daughter (6) would like her new room to be pink. It’s an attic room (in the eaves) and faces north (NNE to be precise).
I don’t plan to change the plain cream curtains (it has a bay and they are floor length, so it would be too expensive), or cream carpet. The woodwork is painted (and can be updated) and the doors are the original Victorian oak.
We have painted lots of samples on the wall: she initially liked Middleton Pink but I think I’ve talked her out of this as it’s just too sweet for me (and I think she’d go off it as she gets older). She’s ruled out Peignoir, and we both like Calamine and Pink Ground. I’d be happy with either of these but they are quite different and we’re finding it hard to choose.
Thoughts welcome? Anything else we should try (I’m not wedded to F&B!). I want something that won’t seem babyish in a few years (I’m happy to redecorate in 5 years, but not 2!) but that is clearly pink. And nothing too dark. Thank you Smile

Sulking room pink may be too dark but is the in colour just now. It's F&B but can be colour matched.

Thank you, I think sulking room pink would be too dark (it’s not a huge room and has coombed ceilings so already on the cosy side). Even calamine seems quite dark to me!

Could you do just one wall pink, maybe the one her bed is against, then if you wanted to change it it would only be the one wall to paint. You could then go for a darker pink if the other walls were lighter.

Edward Bulmer Cuisse de nymphe
Just a lovely colour

I have pink ground in a north facing bedroom and it is very soft and reflects light well. It’s quite a grown up pink ( it’s in my room ) but still clear not dull. I find the dusty pinks such as sulking room, that are having a bit of a moment, old fashioned and a bit depressing!

Thanks all. I've painted enormous patches of Pink Ground on the wall as think that's the front runner (next to the other pinks it looks quite peach, but it sounds like it will still clearly be pink in a north facing room when this isn't a factor?). I love the look of the Edward Bulmer one too (and the fact that it comes in different shades) so have ordered a tester. Really helpful!

We have Calamine (well, the Valspar colour match, which pretty good) in our daughter's north facing room and I really like it. The low light makes it look slightly greyer than it might in a brighter room, but it's not at all dark - just very soft.

Comefromaway · 23/08/2021 12:03

I quite like the look of Dulux Blush Pink. Like you I have tester of Sulking Room and it's too dark. I've not tried Calamine or Pink Ground but we liked Setting Room Plaster so I might try that one.

I have Calamine in my bedroom and it’s lovely. Not too sickly or sugary at all. It looks particularly grown-up when paired with navy, charcoal, or a soft sage or deep forest green so there are lots of options to update it if she wants something more sophisticated in the future.

I have calamine and cinder rose in my north facing bedroom, they're both lovely. The calamine is opposite the window and changes colour through the day. It's not a sickly pink, I really like it.

SaltySheepdog · 23/08/2021 19:01

Go for a pink with warm undertones what with it being north facing

SaltySheepdog · 23/08/2021 19:06

Pink ground is really nice!

minipie · 26/08/2021 22:52

Calamine best kept for S facing, unless you want cool and greyish

Pink Ground or Setting Plaster for N facing

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 27/08/2021 15:07

I have Pink Ground in my hall and staircase. I LOVE it. It's the only F&B colour I have used that I couldn't find a colour match I was really happy with and went for the original.

It's got a hefty dose of yellow in it that makes it not sickly. My staircase gets no natural light at all (it's entirely internal), and it works very well, so I think it would be a good choice for north facing.

semideponent · 27/08/2021 15:09

Setting Plaster is absolutely brilliant for north facing. I have it in my bathroom and love it every single time I go in.

peachgreen · 27/08/2021 15:42

I'm currently deciding between Setting Plaster and Pink Ground for my own N-facing bedroom (to be accented with dark green). Does anyone have any photos?

HelpWithWhereToStart · 27/08/2021 15:55

We’re going for Pink Ground, I’ve painted huge patches and it’s really lovely and makes everything’s even warm and cosy. I’d have been equally happy with Setting Plaster (paler but with a similar feel), but left it to DD to choose between the 2. Thanks for all the advice!

Another vote for Calamine, my daughter has had it in her north facing bedroom and we loved it (until we moved recently. We’ll be decorating her bedroom in the same colour because it’s such a good colour. Pink ground is more peach than pink IMO.

MummyJ12 · 27/08/2021 16:40

This is the photo of her bedroom which is on Rightmove!

@MummyJ12 what a beautiful room your daughter had / has!

MummyJ12 · 17/11/2022 16:28

Thanks so much @Starryskiesinthesky 😊. We have moved now but replicated it, so it’s pretty much the same room, different house!
