Painting before new floors?

I will be getting new flooring and replacing the skirting boards, can anyone tell me if they painted first before getting new flooring. I’m anxious, I’ll paint and then replacing the skirting boards when getting new skirting with the new floors will require a lot of work. Can anyone please share their experience?

I've always painted before having new flooring. Wouldn't even contemplate painting once the new flooring was down. What a faff.

Painting first!

I would do walls first but you will probably need to touch up some areas once the new floor and skirting is in as there will inevitably be scuffs on the walls from installation

But it makes sense to choose the flooring before the wall colour where possible. Even if you don’t install it first for practical reasons.

You will have literally thousands of paint colours to choose from but you might be lucky to have 20 floor/carpet/wood samples to view at home -in your own lighting.

Try & work your colours around your more expensive, long term investments, rather than the other way around.

I would rip out the skirting boards, paint, and then have the new boards and flooring installed.

We recently had a new kitchen floor and skirting boards, then painted afterwards. It is v. likely that even very careful floor fitters will cause some wall damage, whereas a good painter will avoid scratching the floors by covering up properly and will be able to do any caulking round the skirting and paint it nicely. Any rogue paint splashes on the floor are easily cleaned.

Just done this.

Removed old skirting boards, replaced door architraves first. Then had new LVT flooring fitted, then new skirting boards. Paint last thing to be done.

Floors are covered with drop cloths and masking tape applied to skirting board edges.

Flooring first is better.
If you have any stair carpet - then that goes last, after painting.
We thought it’d be better to paint first so it won’t drip on the floor… but ended up with an unhappy painter who had to do touch ups on ‘done’ walls. The skirting boards need to be painted by decorators after fitting by flooring guys. The caulk between skirting boards and walls is laid and painted by decorators and that has to be done after the new skirting is fitted.

Thanks a lot for your responses, which are all very useful - thanks for taking the time to respond
