Hello,

I'd like recommendations for a sturdy, durable, water resistant laminate flooring, preferably budget friendly/ on sale for living room and entryway please. I would appreciate if anyone could give me advice about pricing/ fitters/ suppliers/ brands, etc.
Any recommendations/ advice are welcome, as I have no experience with DIY, house works, tradespeople, etc.

Your help is much appreciated.

We used Howdens in a rental property I looked after. Can’t say as it’s water proof as such, but it handles spills , can be mopped and is very hard wearing.
Take care choosing your finish, some look very obviously fake - too orange, too shiny etc.
You will need an underlay ( very thin foam layer ) and if the sub floor is not concrete or smooth you may need a screed or sub floor. It won’t lie well on existing floor boards without some help.
Joiners can fit it, but if you shop around at suppliers ( Jewsons, Buildbase, Flooring supplies, they may be able to give you names of people who only do flooring.

For durability you probably want LVT. Laminate is not very sturdy.

Polyflor is decent and reasonable.

Hello and thanks so much for your suggestions.
@Quickchangeartiste I had a look at Howdens and I looove the kitchens!
@ Is LVT the same as vinyl Blush
I had a quick look and the prices look almost double the laminate. Is it because it's better?

www.costco.co.uk/search?text=laminate%20flooring

These look really nice and durable, is Cotsco a good supplier to deal with? Do you think that they have fitters who work with them?

LVT means luxury vinyl tile and it is a more upmarket product than regular laminate.
It’s generally more expensive to buy and to lay, but of course there is a range of makes and price points.
Costco are a wholesale outlet; I would imagine you need to have a membership (trade or private) to order from them. Our local Costco has a notice board where tradesmen can leave their cards etc, but I don’t know whether they will arrange fitting.
You might want to find a fitter first ? Then ask them to measure up and tell you what you need ? They may be able to get a discount which they would be willing to pass on or share with you.
Sorry, I am not an expert, I usually talk to the tradesman and get advice on where to look for the type of product I want.

@Quickchangeartiste thanks for the info. I didn't know about Cotsco as I've never been into one and we don't have one locally. At one point I thought it was only in the US and didn't know about it having stores here as well Blush

Do you have any local flooring shops you could try? There's a large one near me that does carpets/vinyls/laminate/LVT and has their own fitters. You can also just buy the product and use another fitter but it will depend on the shop.
Measures and quotes are generally free and no obligation. Just pop in and explain your needs and that you'd like an idea of prices and their advice on durability and underlay etc.

I'm hoping to get LVT in our new kitchen and will be doing this.
