How to nicely hide tv cables without cutting into the wall?

I want to put the tv on the wall but hate the look of the cables hanging. How can we tastefully hide them without the rigmarole of chasing them into the wall then having to re plaster?

conduit?

Zhampagne · 16/08/2021 14:22

What colour is your wall? Cable trunking generally comes in white or black but you can always paint it to match the wall.

I did think about conduit/cable trunking but that's just as ugly I think. I may have to but the bullet and cut into the wall.

If you don’t like trunking then that might be the best option! Alternatively you could have panelling and chase the cables between the panels and the wall. It is very fashionable at the moment and therefore sneered at on MN as something that will quickly date but done well in the right house it can look great.

gardeninggirl68 · 16/08/2021 14:40

cutting into walls is a bad idea.

trumpisagit · 16/08/2021 14:59

Can you have book shelving etc to hide the cables?

jaundicedoutlook · 16/08/2021 18:12

TVs on walls are invariably at the wrong height. The centre of a TV should be at eye level or only slightly higher when you are sat down watching it.

If you must have it on the wall then don’t just chase the cables through - get a proper cable box so you don’t have to rip the cables out again when you change your TV.

We cut into the wall and put in a plastic tube, then plastered over it. Then we fed the tv cables down the tube. If we need to change the tv we can just take off the plug and pull the cables out then feed the new cables down the tube.

Build a false chimney breast on that wall, and have the cables under it.

So we have a plastic thing from John Lewis, you just paint it the colour of your wall!

It has a base which stinks to the wall then you just clip it over the wires!

The shelf is abit bare as we've just decorated - those sockets are normally hidden!

Bite the bullet and chip it into the wall, it looks so much better. As others have said just make sure you can change the tv without re- doing it.

Henrytheehoover · 16/08/2021 23:17

@TeamRick does it not drive you mad that you can see the plug sockets over the top of your unit?

We actually have the plug sockets on the wall at the right height to put the TV on the wall. But we still have the million HDMI cables for various consoles, sky box etc that it still looked unsightly.

TeamRick · 16/08/2021 23:35

Henry yes it does atm but once the turntable and stuff is back on there I won't be able to see them!

We decorated and then ordered a carpet which like everything else is taking an age to arrive so we haven't moved stuff back yet!

houseyhousey · 16/08/2021 23:36

I'd go for a wall panel but if you have you tv at eye level to your seating position with a unit underneath there shouldn't be that much cable on show so one of those covers painted to match the wall will barely notice.

Can you remember what the plastic thing was called please? Might be just what we need, but had a look on JL app and can't see it???
TeamRick · 17/08/2021 22:32

I can't find it online, bought it in store and it was a while ago!

Ours was the whole thing so the tilted tv mount and the trunking thing but it looks like there are plenty of options for both on Screwfix, Amazon etc
