Diy option for flooring in new extension- won't match rest of open plan house (pic)

Hi everyone,

We've had a new extension done which wasn't originally anticipated when we renovated the house 4 years ago (ds is disabled).

We now have the extension built and ready for flooring but had a quote to get the original moduleo which is awful and expensive and I do not recommend in the rest of the downstairs done in the back room but came to £2.5k. We can't justify this cost and want to do an alternative ourselves. It's also going to take them 3 months+ before they can come and do it.

Im stumped for what would look good as I've had my heart set on it all being the same! The other downside is the new extension floor is a slightly different angle and height to the original house (got to love old school buildings!).

Does anyone have any advice or photos or inspiration for what we could do ASAP (dc2 due in a few weeks!)? We will line it all with 22mm ply board to raise it but will obviously need some sort of threshold.

What will the room be used for? How old are dcs, do you have pets?

I'd be tempted to go for a contrast like oak plank flooring or a pale grey tile. Depending on the levels you might only need a thin threshold strip.

If the moduleo is awful why think about matching it?

Is it worth looking for a practical and reasonably priced alternative that could both replace the moduleo and cover the new floor space at the same time? That could both give the unified look you were after and be easier to replace/repair if it gets damage or wear and tear.

Would you want to stick with the wood look? or are tiles an option?
