IKEA busunge

Twins are 4.5 years. Need new beds, that aren't too large to maximize the space in bedroom. I'm loving the look of IKEA busunge ( we have the wardrobe already and I do love to match) but I wondered what the lifespan of these beds would be, as in would the twins have outgrown them by age 8,9 for instance? Don't want to be having to buy new beds within 5 years!

Anyone got older kids in busunge beds?

I don't have these ones, I bought the Utaker stackable ones which have the same size mattress as Busunge at its biggest. I have one set up in the playroom as a sofa and the other as a single bed in DDs room. She's still in the cot but we play and snuggle in it at the weekends. I wouldn't have noticed that it was slightly narrower than a standard single and expect it could do her until she was at least 10 except we may end up getting bunk beds for her and her baby brother before that.

One thing to note, I originally bought the foam mattresses as they were thin and I planned to have both beds stacked in the playroom. Ended up using just one there and the foam mattress was pretty crap, could feel the slats under my bum. IKEA have a great returns policy on mattresses so took them back after a few months and swapped for sprung mattresses which are much deeper and more comfortable. I think with the extendable beds you're limited to foam mattresses? Worth trying them out before committing!

Size wise, I would think it’s okay. It’s only 10cm narrower than a regular single at full length. I’d be more concerned about how sturdy it is once your children get heavier, as being extendable I don’t think it will have the strength of a fixed bed. I can’t find a maximum weight on their website, though it is mentioned. At 9 they may want a more grown up style anyway. Another alternative could be other white bed frames - or maybe low cabins, so they have some storage underneath?

We had the IKEA Minnen extendable beds, which I think are the same size as Busunge. Great little beds. We upgraded the dc to standard size beds last year, when they were aged 10 and 8. We could probably have got away with another year or two, as they still fit in them ok, but they were starting to look like big kids in toddler beds really. They were delighted with the extra width when they got their new beds, and looked a lot more comfortable I must say.
