White (marble effect) tiles on the floor

Our builder did not recommend to lay white tiles (even marble effect) on the kitchen floor saying they will stain easily and look dated quickly.
We were planning to fully tile the bathroom with white marble effect tiles.
I wonder if bathroom floor tiles will stain as well and whether it is worth using grey tiles on the floor.
I would appreciate if anyone could share their experience of white tiles on the floor.
TIA

I'm not sure bathroom tiles will stain, but IME unless you're using a highly-patterned "marble" look, you will see every particle of dust and stray hair on a white floor (and you get a lot of that in bathrooms).

I've lived with pale bathroom floors in the past and it's driven me mad. If you do have a lot of veining in your tiles that will disguise the dirt, but grey would be a safer bet if that's a concern.

I agree about light coloured tiles. They show everything. In also had black very shiny tiles. They showed every drop of water and left marks.

I have porcelain terrazzo tiles now. They are Matt and nothing shows at all.

We put white tiles on the floor of our spare room ensuite. I bitterly regret it, they are impossible to keep clean even in a rarely used room. I'm glad I don't have them anywhere else.

I would somewhat agree although I think you can keep light coloured tiles clean ( NOT limestone - an expensive mistake I once made ) what I would say is the grout is harder to clean so if you do want light coloured tiles go for a darker grout. So to my cost I once had in a relatively small bathroom pale limestone tiles ( floor ) taken out and dark grey porcelain tiles as a replacement with dark grey grout.

I agree with the grout - never EVER go for white grout, grey looks very classy. Do you really want to be on your hands and knees with bleach and a toothbrush?

I have white marble tiles on my bathroom walls but went with dark grey on the floor for these reasons. Glad I did.

I have light grey with white grout in our ensuite. They do show up a lot of hair but I definitely regret the white grout!

I think it's fine and won't date at all as marble effect is pretty timeless.
Porcellanosa do some good ones : www.porcelanosa.com/uk/tiles/floor-tiles/marble-effect?p=2

The lighter the better in my opinion.

I'm just about to do 3 bathroom floors in a porcelain white "marble" and another bathroom (for kids) in a light grey porcelain. I'm going for a particular style, rather than practicalities 😂

Should be finished early November (once rest of building works are done). I'll come back to let you know if it was a mistake lol 🙈

We have light creamy beige marble tiles in our downstairs bathroom. The DC trail dirt in there all the time but the tiles are easy to clean. I really like them.

Epoxy grout is an answer if you really want pale grout. It's more expensive and more difficult to do. Used in hotels and commercial kitchens (and my house).

Rabblesthecat · 11/08/2021 09:29

I'm going with white marble tiles in living room, hall and cloakroom

And cream marble in kitchen, dining and conservatory

And white marble in every bedroom and en suite

Bathroom is grey and stairs and upstairs landing will remain carpeted

We have no kids so probably easier to keep clean

Never in a million years is epoxy grout the answer. It's sets harder than the tile so if there's any movement in the substrate the tile can potentially explode. It's spectacularly terrifying if that ever happens.

The only time we specify epoxy is for high risk contamination areas or high level wet areas.

You should invest in a robot hoover/mop with all that tiling and make your life easy! Took me a while to realise that or that such machines even existed. My living room is carpet but rest of downstairs white marble/white tiles.
