How to make the best of this paint job

We moved into our house a couple of years ago and the previous owners left some mirrors stuck to the wall (the square IKEA ones). We took them off but it took some of the plaster off too so we’ve had it re-plastered but obviously there’s now a patch of plaster with no paint. We took some of the wall that had come off to b&q to get the paint colour matched so we have paint that’s as close as we can get to the original colour but I’m aware that this may end up looking crap when we paint it. We’ll probably put a picture or something over it but I’d still like it to look as good as reasonably possible - does anyone have any tips for making it look better?

Repainting the whole wall isn’t an option, we have an open plan downstairs, with stairs coming down straight into the living room and the entire downstairs, plus stairway, plus landing is all the same colour, and this particular wall is one that run all the way up the stairs so it would be a big job involving ladders on the stairs, and very long rollers!

skim coat first on new bare plaster

test a spot to ensure a good match first

then your usual 2 coats. a decorator recommended using an old rag to blend the edges as you can't really touch up paint and have it look the same due to fading/colour change due to dirt, etc

so i'd blend in the edges if you can

I presume the old owners didn't leave any old pots of paint in the house? (If they didn't, that's really bad!)

Could you contact the old owners to ask what paint they used?

It's a mist coat when it's paint on new plaster. A skim coat is a thin coat of plaster. Cheap white emulsion watered down.

Honestly? I’d cover it with pictures until you repaint the whole wall.
