What colour is this?

I'm a bit colour blind and although I can see colour and I know what I like when I see it, I have great difficulty looking at a colour chart and matching a colour from a little square.

I'm looking for a warm yet mild/soft marigold that gives the same effect as seen in this picture.

I arranged some yellows from a Leyland paint pamphlet around it in the second picture but find it hard to identify the shade.

I actually bought a sample tin of the Sunkiss but as you can see from the third photo with the large sample square I pained two coats over the reddish wall, it's a bit garish and not as subtle and warm as the example in the first photo.

Would really appreciate some advice on what shade that is in the first picture.

On my monitor, and do bear in mind they vary, I'd say the ceiling was Siam Orchid and the walls were Limoncello.

Generally speaking, pick a shade that's lighter than the one you want because they darken in time.

Also in that photo, the ceiling is a paler yellow so it ill affect the wll colour in a different way than a white ceiling would.

Your tester will look different with a white border around it. Have you seen those puzzles that sk you what colour a square is, surrounded by 2 different coloured borders, and when you get the answer, the inner squares are the same colour but your eyes don't see them like that.

Time of day, room orientation, daylight, electric light and a combination of all the different sorts of lightbulbs nowadays will all make a difference to the colour of your walls.

Have a look on some of the paint manufacturer's websites, they usually have some advice about colour, its strength and pairing it with other colours for complement or contrast.

Don't worry if you don't like it, you can always choose another colour and re-paint. Smile

"it ill affect the wll colour"
Translates to it will affect the wall colour.

Sorry, ancient keyboard, pretty ancient typist.

For colours to go with it, nature is always a good inspiration, I took this yesterday and thought how well the yellow of the artemisia with a little bit of deep lavender and more muted greens looked nice together.
