Mixing beige and grey decor

I’m a fan of a neutral decor, usually beige. Most of my home is in this style.

Something came over me whilst picking our kitchen and we decided on a light grey (pebble) colour for the units with white marbled quartz.

It’s stunning but I can’t help but think I now need to go with a grey decor as mixing it won’t work.

Someone please put my (slightly OCD) mind right!

I think you can carefully mix the two, grey-greige-mushroom-beige but I agree that grey doesn’t go with the warmer end of the brown spectrum as it’s a cold colour. Warm oak worktops and doors don’t match well with grey decor in my view. I think you can do it if you tread carefully.

I think it's about getting the shade of grey right. I had a similar dilemma with our living room which had Dulux Egyptian Cotton on the walls, oak furniture and pale carpet and wanted to make it work with our new grey sofas. Looking online I found this room image from an American designer Kristin Hoaglund which mixes together oak, black, grey, cream, beige colours, and I used this as inspiration. I also got some throws from Bronte by Moon which helped tie the colours together too.

I agree you can do it well if you mix a few different "neutral" tones in the room (rather than just 1 shade of cooler grey amongst all the beige). So perhaps try neutral oak coloured flooring, the cooler grey kitchen units, pale neutral beige walls, and the cooler white worktops, ceiling etc - and use accessories to add help blend everything together (perhaps a wooden chopping board or fruit bowl, a beige vase or ornament, grey patterned blinds and/or tea towels etc).

Beige paint can vary hugely - I'm sure you can get find something neutral enough not to clash horribly with the existing beige decor in your house but without going too warm/peachy for the grey units.

If you are willing/wanting to change the existing floors, then "Oak" LVT or wood planks are similar in that the shades of Oak can lean warmer or more neutral - shop around for one that has some cooler grey/taupe hints in it along with the warmer orangey/beige/brown (and then all these "natural" tones will again help the decor blend togther) .
