We are moving soon and my son will also be starting secondary school.

Would appreciate any suggestions or recommendations on what has been the best furniture combo in your kids bedrooms that have worked for clothes storage & study

We have a desk with chair with built in bookcase for all educational books, a separate bookcase for their everyday books, two shelves for their lego creations, a chest of drawers, shoe rack, coat peg, bedside table and built in wardrobe.

Also a noticeboard with a magnetic whiteboard above the desk with their own calendar. All drawers on desk are filled with every type of paper, pen, crayon, pencil they would ever need for school work. Result of lockdown lessons at home

Best wardrobes for both my teens have been the Ikea pax ones. So many combinations. They both have drawers inside their wardrobes so no need for a chest of drawers.

Both have desks in their rooms and shelves above them for school stuff. Desks are used a lot so they both have comfy office chairs.

For beds DD has one with a pull out bed underneath for sleepovers and DS has a big drawer which is great for storing bedding.

Bedside table with drawers for extra storage.

We got ours from Wayfair but Argos do them too. Anything to get them organised for secondary school. As a side note, our dc is just finishing year 7 and as he was being homeschooled for a large part, I bought him the CPG Studybooks and they have been amazing. They have really been used by him and explain everything for KS3.

Just bought IKEA pax wardrobes for both my DC.

Eldest used to have an IKEA high up bed with desk beneath on left. Then shelves on the other side. Or you could have a wardrobe instead (smastad).

Got one of these for our eldest DD’s bedroom

www.cotswoldco.com/home-office-furniture/desks/moreton-metal-oak-ladder-desk-bookcase/

Works really well for desk/dressing table plus book storage and doesn’t take up a huge amount of floor space.

Ooh, this thread is recent! I was searching for “best beds for teens”, and expecting it to be from 2012.

My year 8 kids are about to move into new rooms with restricted headroom: very few full-height walls. Their IKEA desks with shelving on top are unlikely to fit.

Does anyone have any suggestions about good furniture choices for those circumstances?

Thanks

DD1 (13) has a beaten up vintage desk with drawers in an alcove, with Elfa shelves above for books, and a pinboard. Other alcove has a free-standing wardrobe which we're about to replace with an IKEA Pax for more capacity. Bedside table is the one I and my mum both had as kids, a 1940s one with a shelf + cupboard for whatever gubbins she's into at the moment. Bed has Ikea (again) boxes on castors underneath, for the stuff she doesn't need but refuses to get rid of.

I didn't want it to be a room full of kids' furniture, desk under bed etc (though we are fortunate that the room, whilst not big, is large enough to be able to fit separate items of furniture for what she needs). There is no room for a chest of drawers so all her clothes are in the wardrobe and the new one will have integrated drawers as well as shelves and shoe storage.
