Should I spend the money if possibly moving?

Dear Mumsnetters
Please help me decide, we recently acquired a new puppy and it seems sensible to continue the amtico flooring already in the kitchen and hall to extend to the lounge, it would be clean and look amazing. The problem is it's over 2k in price and we could be moving in 3 years. The house is lovely, a three bed detached, the road and surrounding ones are lovely, close to amenities yet lots of green space and country parks...here is the thing though the overall area is not so popular, a part of Essex that is not exactly sought after, however where we live is amazing.
Would you spend the money? Do you think it would be a good selling point eventually? Personally I would stay here longer my husband is keen to move in a few years though. I also worry that my house will become so nice in my own mind that finding something else at the same standard would be a tough thing for me personally, Help! What would you do? Any experiences? Also just to say my last home sold very quickly due to the decor ( spent a fortune on stone and wood floors- flipping freezing though!).

For three years and the possibility of staying longer it is probably worth it. It's a good selling point in the future too.

Thanks Mosaic, this is what I am thinking, I always like a consensus though. Smile

I thought you were going to say you were moving in a few months! For 3 years I would definitely do it.

Great thank you, it's so helpful hearing your views, I'm almost there now..(going for it).

I put off a lot of decor decisions because of the spectre of maybe…possibly…moving someday and it’s not a good idea. I’m battling a tide of shabbiness now.
Go for it.

Thanks Lego, that's a good point, I could have/should have done it sooner too.

£2000 is a lot of money but you get the enjoyment of it for 3 years. Do you worry about getting resale value of a TV or car or holiday?

GreyhoundG1rl · 28/06/2021 17:19

3 years?! Absolutely go for it.

SnarkyBag · 28/06/2021 17:22

With a puppy in the house it’s a wise move. If you keep the carpet then in 3 years time chances it will smell quite doggy and put buyers off at least with the new flooring you can reduce doggy smells

Thank you Sharky, Greyhound and snarky, you are right, today after a week of no accidents said puppy piddled on the carpet! also I'm a bit of a hygiene freak, cant use other peoples towels etc, the puppy has been good for me in breaking down some phobias but a piddly carpet is pushing all the wrong buttons with me. Good point on resale of other stuff too, my very naughty puppy would definitely not recoup the outlay, not that I would consider it Grin, hence the flooring has to go, not the puppy!
