Walls and shade lighter than woodwork. Odd?

I'm completely overthinking it I'm sure but would having walls a shade or two lighter than woodwork look odd?

We've painted all the woodwork in our house Wimborne white but haven't painted the hallway or landing walls yet. Plan was for them to also be Wimborne white but 1 - while lovely on woodwork i'm finding it really quite yellow on the walls I've painted (inside cupboard and loo) and 2 - I was going to use modern emulsion as I have young kids and it's looking really shiny where I've painted it.

So thinking of using LG Shirting now instead but it means that the walls will be lighter than the woodwork but the same type of colour. I've seen people painting woodwork a strong dark colour but not just a slightly darker off white so can't judge on a large scale. I think the test patches look ok but will it look odd?! Also is shirting too light for a high traffic area? Will it just show up all the marks?

TIA. Incapable of trusting my own judgement at the moment.

Ok yes, I think they are to close together, Wimborne and shirting. But that's just my opinion obviously. As you say, a bigger contrast between the colours is more pleasing generally. Could you go with a light neutral on the walls like FG French grey pale?

LG

@mollycoddle77 thanks. Not the answer I was looking for but probably the right one! I'd wanted to carry the colour through to the kitchen diner so wanted something really neutral but it's not the end of the world.

I'll get a French grey tester and maybe Gauze too

I've just remembered our floor tiles are going to be bright blue and white. We'd gone with Wimborne white so it didn't look too clinical. I don't think a colour on the walls is going to work unless I go for a contrast to the tiles and that's not what I was going for. Might have to repaint the woodwork after all 😭

Two things here - firstly most colours look different depending on the light, and I imagine the inside of a cupboard and the loo are relatively low light so I would probably do more testers in lighter areas before deciding.
Secondly if you think the finish of the F&B emulsion is too shiny, why don't you try colour matching it instead? Decorating centre online can colour match pretty much anything and have a range of paint brands and finishes that might suit? They do tester pots too.

Interesting, I have gone for gauze on the walls in my DS's bedroom and he has some blue and white tiles in there too. But if you go with Gauze which is a colder shade, then probably Wimborne will look too yellow.

Maybe French Grey Pale is the shade that can make Wimborne make more sense and pull the whole thing together, because it is a warmer shade of grey. I'll be interested to hear how you get on! :)

@Winederlust I also have it in a couple of other rooms and i really like it there but it's the estate emulsion. I think the modern is a touch darker. The other complication is that all the light will change in a few months with an extension going on and upstairs especially is going to get a lot darker. But yes colour matching is an option and doing that for another room so I can avoid the modern emulsion finish.

But having looked at my test patch of shirting some more I think it might work and it's the easiest option. And if it doesn't then I'll just have to paint everything again in a year once it's settled anyway. I just can't live with a scruffy hall anymore.
